I'm accompanying parents to the hospital tomorrow. A sort of postcard came through the post with the date on and the words 'dressing' written on it, but Mum had also made an appt with her GP surgery for Monday about it, so she's going to attend the hospital and tell them about the Drs appt and if she needs to keep it.

Find the office in your area. They really helped several of my neighbours in our Sheltered Housing group of bungalows. Permanent or temporary care with shopping, cleaning, gardening. All the workers are volunteers and all are properly vetted.

I feel for you: I cared for my parents for many years until they both died within 7 months of each other.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

As soon as I told DS1, he said "Would you like me to go and stay with Grandma for a little while?" Bless his cotton socks. Couple of days from him, overnight from me, we were then at the weekend so DH could get up there.
Even this isn't straight forward. Parents live in a 3 bed bungalow, but when my Grandmother had to go into a Nursing home due to dementia and had refused to sign a POA, Mum went on a mad clear-out of her flat, thinking the council would take over Nan's financial issues (because of the refusal to do a POA). In the end that wasn't what happened and Mum did end up with POA for Nan, but all her belongings went into their spare bedrooms. They still haven't been cleared (was a job for this year!) and they've had to move a little stuff in order for Mum to be able to sleep in a desperate room as she feels too uncomfortable in their double bed.

Fortunately though, we are all in the same village, so not far away.

I wasn't expecting it to be a solution, particularly, I was just so chuffed that DS1 offered so readily ...

And I'm a great believer in sharing the load as far as you can - no siblings, I guess???

Visit from district nurse to remove clips/stitches should have been arranged from the hospital before discharge. The patient should not have to arrange it.
It might vary: I know after my brain surgery, I had to arrange an appointment at the surgery to get the stitches taken out. They even sent me a special tool for snipping them - but it only arrived the day after I'd seen the nurse!

Might be different with District Nurse, and if the patient is less able to get out of the house.

Yes, there's a sibling. Not currently working and not far away. Hasn't been on speaking terms for 3 years. Knows the situation, so no no-one to share the load with. If you mean parents siblings then no. One is only child. Other is estranged from only sibling last seen 17 years ago.
