Westwood £1 Electricity Meter & LPG Gas

Found an amazing cottage for rent today, however upon viewing we were told it has £1 electric meters and LPG Gas.

I'm not familiar with either of these things and just wanted people's advice really as it's putting me off slightly. I know it all depends on consumption but I don't know whether in general they end up being more expensive etc.

Any help would be warmly appreciated

LPG Gas is certainly more expensive than mains gas. I live in the middle of nowhere and have LPG central heating/water heating. I never now use the CH as I had a log burner installed last year.

We have a communal LPG tank and meters, and my bill for LPG water heating - shower every day, washing up, etc, is about £15 per quarter. Using the CE however resulted in bills of about £350 per quarter, and that was six years ago. Our LPG bills are based on gas costing 40p per litre.

If your LPG is via separate portable tanks, it could work out cheaper, especially if they can be re-filled at garages.

No supplier uses coin operated meters in the UK now.

So your meter must be a private one. i.e. you will pay your landlord (i.e he will arrange collection of the money). You will have no say in which supplier or tariff your landlord uses.
However, your landlord is only permitted to charge you the cost of supplying you the energy - no profit (but getting to prove that may be difficult)

What sort of LPG is it? A big tank in the garden? If so, you'll have to pay for a lorry to deliver it.
Or bottled gas?
