I think I only ever use mine regularly for porridge and popcorn. After that it's heating up leftovers or the odd ready meal. But I'm sure if it died I'd make do without it.

I've got one....... and have toyed with the idea of getting a second one. We eat a lot of cauliflower rice, we heat the plates we're going to eat off, and sometimes there will be something else I also want to use the microwave for. I cook a lot from scratch so get leftovers which are frozen, then reheated in the microwave. It can be a struggle shuffling between 2 lots of bowls of food to be heated and get warm plates also all at the same time.

No I definitely wouldn't be without mine.

No I have never had one either. When I have friends to stay they can't believe why or how I manage. I know that's it's illogical but I have never trusted them (born in the 60's when we had warnings about all sorts of Gamma Rays and what they could do to civilisation !!!!!!). I can remember when they were first invented and they cost an absolute fortune. Anyhow I have managed my life without one so won't bother now.
  • I'm another that is Microwave free.

Having seen a few go bang, they now scare me.

  • I have a microwave....

Terrific for heating up a mug of milk.
Porridge is great - and no ucky pan!
Scrambled eggs and omelettes cook well once you suss the timing (take them out while still just 'under' and the residual heat finishes the cooking)
    Defrosting.
    Microwave Popcorn!

    Not so good...
Baked Potatoes (Yes, they are quick, but still need to go in the oven to get proper crispy.)
Melting chocolate...tried a couple of times and went back to melting in a small bowl, over larger bowl of hot water. Microwave left the chocolate grainy.
Mug of tea (had one made for me...seriously!...tea needs HOT water! the microwave one was luke warm!)

I did replace our 25 year microwave nearly 2 years ago as the interior was flaking off and I was concerned about safety - we inherited it off my late grandfather - I rarely use it, but my hubby and brother use it often. Since I have had the new one I have reheated a couple of Bowls of homemsde soup and softened butter to make biscuits. I could easily manage without it.

  • I love my microwave and I'm old enough to remember what it was like not to have one.
Dinners dried to a crisp in the oven because hubby was late home.
Horrific saucepans post custard, porridge and scrambled egg.
Having to wait ages for food to defrost because I'd forgotten to take it out of the freezer on time
I cook from scratch and use my oven daily but the microwave is a useful companion. It's not a stand alone for cooking food but it certainly makes life easier,

  • My jacket spuds I finish off to a crisp in my Remoska after pre-microwaving them. Microwaves have been in use for quite a few years now in industrial kitchens only since the late 1960s were they avaiable for use in the home.My first was a Sharp one and it lasted me 17 years, the newer ones don't seem to last as long, but then they are a lot cheaper now. The amount of radiation from a microwave is akin apparently to a lit match seen from one mile away, very minute.I have never had a problem using one and have had various ones in use in my kitchen since around 1970 and I am still alive and kicking 46 years later :):):)

I have one but don't actually cook meals with it

Warming tinned food, cooking frozen peas, reheating gravy, warming plates, making scrambled eggs and par cooking roasting veg, that's about it

I remember when mum first got one back in the 70's , her taking about an hour cooking a full English in it.
