So money aside, lets say it cost £50 or I was loaded (im not), the general consensus would be to leave it or plaster over it rather than remove it?I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Still a waste of time because millions of people probably live in houses with asbestos-containing Artex with almost zero risk to their health and I could think of many better things to spend money on on your new house than removing Artex.
If you ever have to drill into it (e.g. new light fitting) then its worth taking precautions though I wonder how many people inadvertently drill holes through Artex that has been previously skimmed over or over-boarded!0 -

If it is confirmed as asbestos then you need a specialist company to do it. This isn't cheap, in fact it's very, very expensive.
if you decide to just get it skimmed over then they need to also be careful because a lot of them scrape away the high points, this would disperse any asbestos in those parts scrapped away.0 -
Done the steamer and X-Tex stripper on an artex (generic name for textured coatings) ceiling - Both messy, both failed in removing the coating cleanly and without mess.
Ended up taking the whole ceiling down (plaster & lath) and reboarding. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
Artex only contains around 2% asbestos, white asbestos is harmless, the only danger of asbestos harm from artex is if you try to remove it because the clouds of dust inhaled over many years can cause problems in many people.
If you don't like Artex you can skim over it, getting it removed is an expensive process because even the old plaster boards contain some asbestos so it's a never ending process.Enjoy everyday like it's your last!0 -

Maybe it is the asbestos in the old plaster board the makes the scrim come loose0 -
With regard to comments "just skim over it". It isn't always that straight forward.0

Given this thread is over a year old, I suspect the OP has it sorted by now.0
