Haven't heard from OR...Have now! (16/10)

I went bankrupt on 4th September and called my OR on the 6th to let him know I was going to Mum's in France for 10 days... He said he would call me when I got back to arrange an interview but I still haven't heard from him. Should I be worried??

When I did speak to him before I went away I asked him about my bank account and he told me he wouldn't be freezing it (it's Nationwide) so that's a relief. It's weird though because the Halifax wrote to me saying they had seen my BR in the London Gazette, so I thought maybe the Nationwide would have done the same?

Also been checking the local paper for my name, I wanted to be prepared for my landlords calling me after they'd seen it but it's not been in there yet. Funny thing is though in this weeks, the numbers and dates of the BR orders are after mine, do you think mine would have already gone in or they have missed me out completely? My Dad was checking when I was away and told me he'd not seen it in there... very weird!

Sorry for all the questions, they're not even important ones! :rotfl:

Hi MM - Often, the first month of bankruptcy can be a bit strange, in that you were so busy in the 'run up' to the big day that you tend to expect that everything thereafter happens at the same pace. Truth is - it doesn't.
The best advice is simply not to worry - the ball is now firmly in the court of the Insolvency Service - it's possible that your OR's office were also in the middle of a 'holiday' period and just haven't caught up yet.
As regards your bankruptcy not appearing in the local paper - again, don't worry about it. I scoured our local paper for months and never found mine. The important publication, as far as your creditors are concerned, is the London Gazette, and, as you say, your creditors are already picking up on that.
Maybe it's worth giving the OR a call, but I'm sure they'll get round to you in their own time.
    Good luck.

  • Mmmm, yes maybe I am worrying over nothing... I guess it's no bad thing he hasn't been in contact! I haven't heard from my landlords yet so I guess they haven't seen it in the paper either, let's hope they don't either.

Thanks, will sit tight and see what happens. :)

Well guys I still haven't heard from my OR... bit weird I think! I know they must be busy but surely I should have had my telephone interview sorted by now... it's a month on Thursday!

I have informed all my creditors so at least they're not all ringing me still... I guess I will wait for the phone call. :)

Hi Miss Muppet. I think I would phone them and get it over with. Will this have any affect on your ED? I presume you are still in a state of limbo not knowing what will happen next etc. Are you sleeping better than before your BR date?

What's my ED? I'm not really in limbo, I spoke to him very briefly before I went away and he said I could keep my Nationwide account... that was my main worry. To be honest it's finally sinking in and I am starting to enjoy budgeting my money! Do you think I should call or wait for him?

Miss Muppett it took them nearly a month to get in any sort of contact at all with me so don't stress - they will contact you and you haven't done anything like try and dodge them so you have nothing to stress about - I know how it feels though and you just want it over and done with. But just think - the longer it takes to happen, the nearer Discharge you will be when it does and therefore you'll have spent some of your BR period already without even noticing it! :)

Oh and ED is early discharge - some people get discharged earlier tahn the automatic year, but if yours is really busy you might not, as that seems one of the major factors from what I've read on who does and who doesn't get it, it would seem :)

Maybe the discussion that you had, before you went to France, was enough, MM. But as you are so obviously concerned it may not be a bad idea to give him a ring, after all.

Yep. I would give them a ring. It's natural for you to be concerned, so they won't mind.

Your case file is probably halfway down a big pile that your examiner hasn't got round to yet after their summer hols though.:D

Well I'm not well at the moment and on the verge of losing my voice so maybe I'll call him next week when hopefully he'll be able to understand me... :) Thanks!
  • It took a month for them to contact me too - but then they tried to imply that I had run away from the courts and avoided the meeting on the day!

In truth, I had. I got a call from my son's nursery saying that he was ill, and I informed the clerk of the court and it was fine. They were OK when I explained what had happened.
