I can also confirm I got the same letter before Christmas telling me my card was being upgraded to a Gold Card with the following benefits:

CONTACTLESS PURCHASES

0% NON STERLING TRANSACTION FEE ON ALL PURCHACES WHEN YOU USE YOUR CARD OVERSEAS

SPECIAL PROMOTIONAL INTEREST RATE OF 9.9% FOR 3 MONTHS

A LOWER INTEREST RATE.

My letter stated the new card would be sent out towards the end of January 2017.

I personally think it's just a way to update to contactless.

Lastly, when I had an Aqua Advance card I received several offers of promos involving lower interest purchases and Balance Transfers but none of them involved an upgrade to a Gold card.

Mine was contactless when I closed it and I had promo offers for years but it wasn't a Gold Card. A bit difficult for me to confirm the lower APR because I had a long standing Advance card with a APR of 19.9%.

I still don't believe this Aqua Gold Card exists unless of course anyone can prove it with a link on the aquacard site or Newday site. Until then I have to regard it as yet another MSE fallacy!

Contactless is starting to appear on some of the other cards now, as well as Gold.

I received a contactless card in the post, probably a month ago, telling me the cards are now contactless and I should destroy the original as it will stop work after 2 - 4 weeks, cant remember how long exactly. Aqua reward.

I held an Aqua Gold Card about 18/24 months ago. The credit limit at the time was 5750. I wasn't using the card so i closed it down. The card itself was black with a gold 'ribbon' through the middle. They do exist, i can guarantee that!
