flight price increase

I recently booked through Travel Republic flights & accommodation for 5 of us to Orlando in July. The flights were £3770 in total. The next day Travel Republic contacted me to say the price had changed whilst I was booking it and it would be £70 more per person! Making the total £4120. This doesn't sound a lot but multiplied by 5 that's another £350! Presumably there's nothing I can do now as I've paid £500 deposit for the flights.

Are you getting a discount because you are booking flight+accomodation together?

Did they not give you the option of cancelling the flights?

  • Yes I could have cancelled the flights but I checked on skyscanner and the flights seemed to be going up anyway (they've since come down again!) probably because I was searching them so much they kept increasing lol. As I was on the phone to Travel Republic I think I panicked and just said yes to it.
  • They wouldn't have actually taken your deposit. The money would be ringfenced because the booking wasn't confirmed, hence the call to tell you the price had increased. Had you declined to carry on the ringfenced deposit amount would have dropped back into your account in a few days (depending on your bank).

Prices on Skyscanner wouldn't have increased because you were looking on there. It's only a search engine. They don't sell anything so nothing to gain. If you were looking at the prices on there to the 3rd party advertisers then most aren't live anyway.

The problem with Travel Republic is that they don't have direct access to the airlines, so when they actually went to book your flight the price had gone up from the last time they checked.

If it's not too late I would get a refund and book direct with the airline, Travel Republic are unlikely to have been cheaper.
