Defaults removed after 6 years

Hi, I have a default on my credit file with Barclays

The default date was 1/2/2011 so it is due to disappear in a few weeks.

I really want this off my report asap as I know they don't update very fast sometimes - I was wanting to write a letter to to make sure they update all credit reference agencies as fast as possible (on the day or a day or 2 after max). Has anyone ever done this and how did you go about it?

Thanks

Dangerous to do if the debt is statute barred since if you contact the lender about it you'll be admitting the debt. As explained it's the CRA which removes it and once the CRA updates the other CRAs will follow.

Just because the debt has fallen off your credit report doesn't mean the debt has gone off into the wide blue yonder. If not statute barred, you'll still owe the money and you can still be chased for it including in the County Court.

Is its statute barred no actions can change that and make it unstatute barred

I've never heard that term before so I doubt it is but I have written letters saying that if I make a partial settlement they will not be seeking any more payments, I paid this and they sent a letter stating they will not be chasing up any more money.

But if its not statute barred yet they could apply for CCJ in the days before it is due to, to stop it going so. Also as was said writing in could be seen as admitting the debt. I'm sure its not unheard of that people have smugly written to creditors to say a debt they owe is now stat barred, when in fact it wasn't quite and have just admitted to the debt :rotfl:

No. Your data will be updated at the same time as everybody else.
  • Just an update, my default was due to fall off on the 1st of this month and came off on the 3rd so I am very happy with that.

I know score means nothing but it's upped my credit score considerably.

Now the only bad thing on my c edit file is a phone contract which says "settled - debt assigned" and that was 21 months ago. I assumed since this was not defaulted that it will stay on my file forever?
