I just thought to myself "Single people ALWAYS do the bins WITHOUT being nagged" :)

Yep, and even if it is pouring with rain as I had to yesterday. I do remember me and my ex taking it in turns when I was married, and both doing our share of the cooking and shopping. Sometimes I think how nice it would be just to have someone ask if I wanted a cup of tea, and making one for me.

Anyhow, that's enough of the feeling sorry for myself. It won't change anything and will only make me miserable so there's no point.

Me too. I had a plan this morning.... chicken/yorkshires/stuffing/veggies... even defrosted the chicken.

Then simply didn't fancy it .... trouble is, this chicken's got a bit of history so now I've not cooked it I WILL have to bin it... and I don't care enough to cry about the waste (25p).

I opened the freezer and to my deep joy I spotted the two cheap scones I'd tossed in to freeze! So I had those, with the last ¼ teaspoon of old orange marmalade* that had been lurking in the fridge, so that's gone too.

    QUOTE]

Sometimes you have to just throw something out that has been hanging around for so long if you are sure that you won't eat it. There is just no point in keeping something 'just in case' you will eat it when deep down you know that you never will.

I could do with finding a couple of scones in the freezer or even the cupboard right now, they would go down a treat. I don't know why but I am hungry again now. I think I will get some toast in a minute. If I go to bed hungry I don't sleep :(

EDIT: I don't know what happened to the quote :(

Well - I brought that tv programme up on Iplayer and had a look at it (ie the one re singles food shopping/preparing). Hmm....!

But it is a useful point for us all to remember that there are 7 million of us out there. Given just how many of us there are - then it's astonishing we aren't better catered for yet. Time for us to go in with the confidence of knowing our "weight of numbers". I know I was aware there are quite a few of us - and so I do often go in places knowing "There's plenty more like me - so dear retailer/restaurant owner/etc it's time you updated to allow for that".

    ***********

Pastures - I know exactly what you mean by the knowledge that it's only ever you that will do things - there's no-one else living in the house that will take a share of it. At those times - I remind myself that, if there was A.N. Other in the house, there's a good chance that with me being the woman out of the two of us - there is the likelihood it might prove difficult to get Him to do his half share of things (as I've heard enough of how things work in couples to know women still tend to do the lions share of things:eek:).

That doesn't stop me sometimes thinking "Now if I had Mr A.N. Other living here too - then I wouldnt have to do all the housework and all the shopping and all the house renovating work". At those times I conveniently forget and work on the basis He would do his "fair share" (ie 50%). But it gives me leeway to think "I've had to spend a lot of time on (100% of) house renovation work this week - so I'm not going to bother about that bit of housework. Otherwise - what time will I have for me?". That excuse is coming to an end soon - as there's not much more house renovation work remaining to be done......

resonating posts again, about single people having to do everything and about single sized tins and bought portions. I want to add holidays to that, besides the lack of enjoyment by going by yourself, the constant need to chat to strangers.

Some rollers on the shower screen disintegrated the other day, so I am on my hands and knees sorting it out. I think I have ordered the right size rollers, now cannot undo the hex nuts holding the old rollers on, have ordered locking wrenches and releasing oil. I don`t want to give in and get someone in at high cost, just to fit something that I can fit, if I can get the nuts undone

I`m getting my hair cut and blown later, btw eating protein at the first two meals helps a lot with hair loss, caused by sudden stress and getting older. Then on the way back I am getting a delicious small thorner pork pie, could buy a salad but will be good and get a salad ready on a clingfilmed plate before I go. I still have a portion of veg and lentil soup so will have soup first, unless I have it before I leave
  • I'd be glad of any links you have to that info. re protein-eating Kittie.

I'm still struggling with my fine hair being wispy these days:(. Latest thing being I'm "taking the easy way out" (I hope...) and have bought some specific multi type vitamin things labelled as specifically for hair.

I'll feel free to focus more on personal things soon - at last! Just a matter of days away now from bulk of house renovation done and only one task to do on house itself after that and it will be one that involves a lot of house upheaval again (re re-decorating darn it) - but should only take about 3 days I figure. I'll find out soon when that's likely to be done - but, as far as I'm concerned, it will be done asap and I'm expecting it to be done this year anyway. After that - it's going to be more "outside" stuff - but goodness knows when I'll have the money for that (as it will be so expensive). At any rate - outside work is not going to be nearly so disruptive (bar the nfh that is....)

Reminds me - there is supposed to be a vegan "tuna style" sandwich filling made with chickpeas. Has our resident vegan on this thread done that ever - and, if so, what's it like?:)

I've made that mix thing yes.
Chickpeas mashed, vegan mayo and pepper to taste I believe is the standard version. Me being me though I add in small chopped up onion, cucumber and carrot, then srir in some peas and sweetcorn just because. I like it because it isn't cooking so I can do it on my own. Good with a left over baked potato or pasta, even on bread/toast or wrap. I'm sure it would work well stirred into rice/quinoa/couscous etc.

Reminds me I have an open jar of vegan mayo in the fridge that needs using up.
I have loads of things needing to be used up right now; salsa, tomatoes, cucumber, spinach, carrots, cauliflower, celeriac and parsnips on the top of my head. Oh I also have that pile of potatoes to get through.

I haven't had coffee yet, only water, but that is because I'm still in bed.

Thinking of doing a baked potato for lunch and using the salsa as the sauce for salad to go on it, or a burrito bowl. Gah to many ideas.
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy :D

I use mashed chickpeas as a base paste for wraps, tossing in whatever else I fancy.... it holds fillings together ... seems odd to call it "tuna" though.

    For me it's a quick/easy tortilla filling glue :)

I have gathered from reading this thread that the small tins of beans and tomatoes etc are expensive in comparison to the average sized ones. Is there anything that is aimed at single people do you think or that is cheaper to buy a smaller version of? It's just got me thinking :)

Personally I think ready meals are aimed at single people though have been shocked at someone I know who regularly buys 5 spaghetti bolognaise for her family dinner.

Decided as the weather is so foul, wet and windy, I will sort my fridge out today instead of tomorrow and will take my pea and ham soup back out of the freezer.

I seem to have more left in the fridge than usual but I was away last weekend so I suppose that accounts for it, also need to check what veg I have left in the outside cupboard.

    Good afternoon everyone,
I'm up to my eyes in haggis, black pudding and sausages......
My poor Dad had a fright during the night when his fridge/freezer faulted and he woke to the smell of burning electrics....:( One quick visit from the Fire Brigade later and culprit identified and made safe. Fast forward a few hours and my Dad's here with the contents of his freezer (still frozen) so I've stashed what I can in the freezerand will cook the rest. He had recently got a meat order so there's loads. Two trays of sliced haggis have been baked and there are two trays of black pudding currently in the oven. The rest I'll sous vide when defrosted. Needless to say a new fridge/freezer arrives tomorrow:D.

Breakfast didn't happen so lunch currently being scoffed is a roll and haggis :). I've taken chicken thighs out the freezer for tonight.
