I think one of the issues might be that products are regional/local - and the online store is national - so there's a good chance that the things you might wish to buy that you've not managed to find locally will never come because they're simply never stocked in your local area/region.
I'd just not wish to expect X, Y and Z and to receive X, A and B - when X only works if it arrives with Y and Z. Imagine trying to make beans on toast with a loaf, margarine and beans .... if you received a pack of hot cross buns, some mushy peas and a pack of cheese triangles! Or ...nothing at all as you ticked "no substitutions".
I simply don't trust the pickers to have the same level of commitment to grabbing what I want off the shelf as I'd have myself - also, if I'm in a shop and they are out of what I want, I'm on the road, so have the option of trying another shop ...not the same when you're in your pants and slippers expecting a full delivery of everything you need soon!
I've been known to drive 300 steps to my nearest shop "just in case" they're out of the thing I want, so I can then immediately do the 2 mile round trip to the next shop to try to get it, or something else instead.0 -
When you are shopping (if using Tesco) you can specify what substitution you would like if the item requested is not available. Tesco have always been fine with us for substituting items. They replace an out of stock item usually for a more expensive brand but still charge the original price.0

Mum used to hoard dozens of those sort of tins when I was growing up, sardines and cod roe ... I remember watching her pick out a sardine from a tin, then strip its backbone before plonking the sardine in a sandwich. Gross.
But tinned Mackerel is a completely different kettle of fishto tinned sardines! No bones, no skin, no backbone, no eyes:eek: just lovely healthy meaty fish..I merely made the mistake of eating them straight out of the tin too quickly when I wasn't actually hungry
I'm not keen on tinned sardines but freshly caught and fried sardines are delicious'I'm sinking in the quicksand of my thought
And I ain't got the power anymore'0 -

Certainly here you can only see online what is available locally, I've had no problems with subs from Tesco (Asda was terrible for random subs) and usually it is a higher priced product for the same cost. Today was a good example I had ordered 2 bunches of daffodils @ £1 each not available so subbed for a large bouquet of different types of daffodils. It's lovely and I still only paid £2 instead of £8This was the only sub in a massive shop.
In typical CFO dilemma I don't know what to have for dinner I want something hot but CBA cooking, don't want eggs as had them at lunchtime, don't fancy soup or toasted cheese, don't want to open a tin of beans as won't use the other half up........0 -
Hi everyone,
Another single female living on their own and CFO here. I have been reading the thread since the beginning and have decided to join in if that's ok, as I have the same issues with CFO as you have all been talking about.
Today I used up two eggs for breakfast this morning, and then had a chicken breast portion and the same salad that I have had for the past three days and needed to use up before it goes mouldy for lunch. This evening I CBA to cook, so have just had two large bars of chocolate!
Tomorrow I have got an online delivery coming, something I do every 3 or 4 weeks for the bulk/heavy items as I don't have a car or a very large supermarket within walking distance.
I have a small sainsbobs and M & S about 10 minutes walk away and a WTRS about the same distance in the other direction. This means that I don't have that much choice, but probably not a bad thing as CFO.0 -

This is where cheese triangles are your friend. Just half an hour ago I toasted my last crumpet .... and smeared a whole cheese triangle on it. One triangle's big enough for two crumpets, but I only had one crumpet left, so decided to push the boat out anyway0 -

Welcome. I'm quite spoilt really, except I feel disadvantaged
I'm equidistant from both budget supermarkets. I have M&S, Waitrose and another small supermarket a mile away and the other way a Sainsbobs.
But I WANT AN ASDA!!!
I specifically chose my house with an eye on "how accessible are cheap supermarkets, so not Spar corner shops" ... working on the basis of finding myself almost immobile, without a car and just £5 cash in my pocket could I actually buy a good choice of basic foods ... and I can0 -
No cheese triangles or crumpets:( so ended up with a piece of HM quiche from the freezer and oven chips0
