I have a challenge for those that are up for it :D

Post a meal plan and shopping list (5 days) that uses up most of the short life ingredients within the week (not all, we are not miracle workers :rotfl:) with different meals most nights/dinners.

I am planning to work on one but its not going to be easy so will take a few days for me post it.

Restaurants I rarely frequent - and, if I do, they would tend to be a carvery (I have the empty plate/no meat) .... or something like a pub meal (there's a great pie/chips 2 miles from here). But I've only been to the pie pub twice in 4 years ... and the carvery twice.

But, choosing ... it starts with the basics: is there a pie on here? Then I see what else there is that's ancient style food, so a curry maybe, or a quiche. Then I look at what they come with, and if they've been "modernly fiddled with" by adding modern cr4p I have no interest in .... finally I'll get it down to 1-2 items.

Then I ask what others are having .... because if they're having one of those two then I'll have that too because there's nothing worse than choosing the other one then seeing their dinner's better than yours :)

... must be much easier if you can narrow choices down on the don't like/won't eat basis LOL

    That's me :)

No steak, no seafood, no spinach, no mushrooms, no courgettes, no aubergines, nothing that's got bacon on/in it ... and that gets rid of most things on menus. Then there's nothing with bone/skin (so no half a chicken or legs or drumsticks) ....

No lasagne because I've never had one I like ... not against eating one that cost 80p, but not going to pay good money for one. No pasta dishes - I don't see pasta as "food you pay for" as I see it as a plate of cheap/fast food to scoff because you have to eat something, no cream sauce dishes.

Then, no "funny modern food" like quinoa.

I like a good sized portion of a good pie, chips and maybe some peas.

I like your style PN that is so true. I rarely eat out but when I do I have the awful habit of looking what the waitress is delivering to other tables (usually after I have ordered) and wishing I had chosen that :rotfl:

Decisions when it comes to food shopping I am OK with but my issue is when I am faced with menu in a restaurant or a takeaway menu ...too many choices and I just keep on changing my mind ..very annoying if you are eating with me :)

Anyway its not cooking but tonight I am watching the Matrix and polishing off some leftover baileys :)

Oh don't get me started on a restaurant or take away menu...I'd still be there the next day :o

I always apologise profusely to whoever I am with and beg them to just choose something for me because whatever I eventually decide on, will never be quite right:o

Stupid thing is, I love food so I'm easily pleased..I just can't ever decide and when I do, it never really floats my boat..

    I'm a lost cause :(:o:rotfl:

Up for this I've done my plan for the week and this week it's mainly trying to blend frozen items with stuff that needs using up so here goes:-
Sun- Lamb steak (freezer) with baked sweet potato and roasted tomatoes, mushrooms and onions (use up items)
Mon- Steak pie (freezer) with savoy cabbage ( use up)
Tue - Chicken casserole (freezer) with pasta (cupboard)
Weds - Haggis (freezer) with neeps and tatties (use up)
Thurs- Liver and bacon (freezer) with neeps & tatties (use up)
Fri - Lasagne (made from scratch), garlic bread and salad (use up) having some friends round
Breakfast will be toast (use up) and lunches soup (freezer) or eggs (use up)

I find it's one thing to make a list .... it's another thing entirely to actually fancy eating that when it's time for the meal.

I never know WHAT I'll fancy until I'm standing in the kitchen knowing I HAVE to decide...

Today I've used up 2 black bananas to make some flapjack.
    I had a pot noodle.
I flashed the cash and bought a chicken curry & rice.

All in, that lot's under £1.50, so well over budget, but easy.

oh dont get me wrong I fully intend to use as much as possible from my stocks for as long as possible this year but I dont like to decide what im having until the day. I think it stems from a childhood where we ate exactly the same food every monday then exactly the same food every tuesday and so on and it drove me nuts so now the very thought of a proper plan makes me balk.
