Where to live in West Yorkshire?

Hi all,

Looking for some opinions on nice places to live in West Yorkshire! Were looking for a 3 bed semi-detached, up to 200k, with no more than a 45 minute commute (driving) in to the bd4 and bd1 area for our work. We work shifts so not travelling at rush hour times.
I'm from Bradford, 10 minutes from city centre so i want away from that, Partner is from a little village near S!!!!horpe, therefore we'd like something preferably semi-rural or at least with a bit of greenary!

Areas in particular we'd like opinions on (as we've seen houses we like there) are:

Wrose
Thackley
Yeadon
Denholme
Morley
Elland
Greetland
Illingworth
Ovenden

Also open to any suggestions, don't want to be in Huddersfield or central Leeds may i add!

Thanks in advance!

  • Yeadon is quite nice but is next to Leeds/Bradford airport. If you work shift do you sleep during the day? I'm not sure how noisy the planes are in Yeadon but worth a thought.
  • Hi,

I lived in Huddersfield for about 15 years so can say there are nice areas there but i appreciate the M62 commute is a nightmare at times.

Calverley / Rodley / Horsforth are all nice areas inbetween Leeds and Bradford, I know people that live in Bingley and Cullingworth and they are also nice places to live.

    Hi,
About once a month we both may do night shifts so sleeping during the day. We both used to live backing on to a train track which it didn't bother us! We have visited the house and didn't find it too noisy!

Calverley, Rodley and Horsforth are all places we've looked at but can't seem to find anything at the moment that fits what we want within our price range! I guess with the Leeds postcode comes higher prices!
Will have a look at Bingley and Cullingworth :)

Hebden Bridge is nice, but I think it is a bit far out for you
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Little bit too far away from family and work, my nanna used to live in Normanton it is nice though!
  • What about some of the villages around Wakefield? Ossett, sandal and altofts are nice, because of your work times you should be fine with the commute

Yeadon would be my first choice out of those, my aunt lives there and you hardly hear any noise from the planes at all. I would move there tomorrow!
Another suggestion is Otley, a lovely market town surrounded by beautiful countryside although it would be wise to choose a home that does not involve crossing the bridge as I hear that there are delays daily to get over the bridge.
Guiseley, between Yeadon & Otley is also a nice area again lovely countryside and a good selection of shops, bars & eateries. Good luck in your search.

I am told Morley is nice. Easy commute into Leeds via the train too.
