Car knocked me off my bike

  • If the OP was on a pedal cycle it's fair to assume the incident was entirely his fault

I can only respond based on what OP says - he says the car knocked him off - quite possible OP was at fault yes but there are plenty of heartless so and sos who would end up with a scratched car from hitting a bike and then blame the bike just for being on the road

It's almost like you're saying cyclists are never to blame.

No it's like I'm saying the OP said one thing and without evidence to the contrary, we reply based on that.

Do you normally respond to people asking questions by ignoring what they say and assuming they meant something different?

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

As there are cyclists who believe exactly the opposite;)

From experience, car drivers hit cyclists and then say "oh sorry didn't see you mate". The UK has this ridiculous idea about cars being a right, far too many think that they own the road and they can do no wrong, a bit of respect for other road users would do the world of good

The problem is I have just found out we are both using the same solicitor.

I'm the first to find out, the solicitor and the car driver don't even know yet.
I presume you mean the same firm of solicitors, rather than the same individual?

If so, then it's not an issue. Bring it to the attention of your solicitor, and they will arrange for internal chinese walls to be erected. But how come your solicitor hasn't been in contact with the driver yet?

What we seem to be missing here, when people are making judgements, is why the OP and the car driver have gone straight away to a solicitor.

If I were knocked off my bike, I'd be straight onto Grabbit & Runne, through my British Cycling membership, and they would be onto the car's insurer.
If I rode into a car, I'd expect his insurer to be bothering me, and I'd refer any and all correspondence to my insurer.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))
