Car knocked me off my bike

I got in touch with a solicitor straight away, and then I get a letter from the driver of the car wants to claim damages from me.
The problem is I have just found out we are both using the same solicitor.

This is a very unusual situation

I'm the first to find out, the solicitor and the car driver don't even know yet.
Nothing has been fixed since 2008, it was just pushed into the future

Why didn't you (or the driver) report it to the police when it happened?

Lesson for you then - if knocked off, get the police (I'd be amazed if you had no injury having myself been off twice because of careless drivers even if it's just something that comes up later like soft tissue bruising), get witness details etc and make sure these are all in order. If he drove into you and you were not at fault, him claiming damages is out of order

A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

All the replies so far have ignored the OP's problem!

The situation isn't really so unusual. The OP should speak to his solicitor ASAP - they have rules and procedures to avoid conflicts of interest.

The cyclist could be at fault, let's wait for him to report back first.

True, but we only have the OP's word for that. Without any true description of the event we don't know why the vehicle owner has found it necessary to counter claim.

I suspect clearly the motorist feels the Cyclist was at fault and although the cyclist suffered being knocked off the motorist may feel he should not suffer the cost of the cyclists stupidity.

Incidentally I am an avid cyclist and avid motorist.

I can only respond based on what OP says - he says the car knocked him off - quite possible OP was at fault yes but there are plenty of heartless so and sos who would end up with a scratched car from hitting a bike and then blame the bike just for being on the road

As there are cyclists who believe exactly the opposite;)
