O/S Daily Friday 13 January 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is enough.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 gone to work also, DS2 still in his pit.
Still dark here, no snow but very cold and icy, forecast says we could get sleet/snow today, we'll see.
Dinner last night was egg, bacon, fried potatoes, mushrooms, beans and toast. Tonight there's 3 x portions of LO shepherds pie, and I've got 2 x portions of HM lasagna that I've got out of the freezer - menfolk will have to decide which they want - hoping they all don't want lasagna! Whatever they have will be served with chips, shepherds pie - with peas and gravy, lasagna - side salad.
Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I visited building society and bank early, then had a couple of places to visit, as when I do the food shopping today I only want to go to 1 SM, I bought the things I needed only from elsewhere and spent very little, I've updated my GC spends in my diary. I also made a big pot of roasted sweet potato and carrot soup, using up carrots and a sweet potato that I would have thrown in the bin and some ready chopped onion from the freezer (bought when onions were on offer), I used up some ready made puff pastry that was at it's use by date and made a dozen mince pies - they looked a bit strange but seem to taste ok and there's not that many left! So am quite pleased that I managed to use up instead of throwing food away. I did a menu plan and have written a shopping list - the list doesn't look like it's got that much on it and although my store cupboard is full, I don't have that much meat/fish - I'm hoping to get some cheap food week's in, use up some food from the freezers then start bulk buying the meat from the butcher again, it's so much better quality and value. For example the chicken breasts are huge - if I make a dish for all four of us, and the chicken needs to be chopped I can get away with using 3 breasts instead of 4, and sometimes 2 depending on the recipe.
Keep safe and well x

Morning - thanks for the thread nmlc xx
Brrrrr is all about can say! I'm setting off to the station at 7 to see what's what. Really icy outside and we live on a hill, so I need to go slowly.
Hug to all the poorlies and Lainey in particular xxx keep safe and warm everyone.

Morning All
Brrr, it's cold this morning. No more snow since yesterday afternoon - quite a covering. Just been out to the bin and the wind is biting.
Yesterday's course was quite good but no tea break so my head was buzzing by the time I got back to work, I was quite hungry too but the dinner ladies sorted me out!
The washing is folded, I'll strip my bed later and do a good clean round. One of the builders broke the toilet seat so I bought a new one yesterday and broke it putting it on, I'll get another on the way home!
Hope Dolly is settling in now. Lainey, thinking of you and your DM. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Hugs to Lainey and all others in need of support.
Well done Dumpling and nice to see you got home safe JackieO.
It's a bit nippy here, but worse in other places I'm sure.
I'm still sleeping under a 4 tog duvet, my L&M has a 13 tog one.
DGS is staying tonight so he will hog my pc, lol.
I went to Lidl's yesterday after work and spent £20, we are more likely to be flooded than snowed in but we can now withstand a 3 month siege if necessary and that included screenwash for the car.
It's time I set off for work.
Have a good day everyone & stay safe

Morning all. Flying visit from me as I am currently having a nervous breakdown!!!!! B.... snow disrupting everything! Three DGDs to take to school and it looks as though they are going nowhere unless the weather dramatically improves. Currently snowing like mad and a gale blowing the snow everywhere too. DD couldn't get her car up the hill at 6.15 so has had to walk into town and currently on a bus to work! Amazingly she is going to be there roughly on time! She is supposed to start at 7.00.
Right kids to sort out just in case there is a chance they will get to school!
Will check in again later.Meanwhile hugs to all in need/want. Thinking in particular of LAINEY. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's really cold and blowy here but no snow as yet. Hubby has grumped his way off to work and the girls are getting ready to leave for school. I am planning another trip out on my own this time. I want to get some fresh fish and some vegetables so I want to go to town as there is a man who sells fish from a stall caught fresh from the boats. I don't usually eat fish apart from salmon and tuna so I am going to broaden my horizons and try something new.
I am being swamped by dirty washing again so that is on the agenda for today. I am also calling a towel amnesty as the girls have loads in their bedrooms and the airing cupboard is looking a bit sorry for itself. I also want to clean and tidy the living room before I settle down to watch a film and do some knitting.
My positive thing today is wanting to go outside on my own.
Well that's all from me for now, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning everyone.
No snow here at all though I can see loads on the top of Rest and Be Thankful (via the traffic cameras) but the road is clear, at least it was yesterday. We've only had the ocassional hail and high winds.
I'm hoping to head to Glasgow to see my DM who is still recovering from the cough-cold thing, and I have to return my PVR to JL because it's failed. Just a pain.
I really hope that everyone is safe and dry.
Happy Friday.0 -

Morning :hello:
I don't like walking Scampi when it's windy! It's like the wind is blowing all scents in his direction. He keeps stopping and turning his head from side to side while madly sniffing then worrying about it and puts himself on high alert, lol. And he bounces around, barking at leaves blowing about

I wasn't expecting any snow, the forecasts suggested it was going to miss us but we had some overnight. Only about half an inch, but it's made me happy, lol. It'll be interesting to see what Scampi makes of it.
My cushion covers are four different patterns. In my head, they looked fabulous. I'm working on the second one at the moment and I think I've made a mistake – I probably should have used the same pattern for all of them, I have a feeling four different ones are going to look a bit daft and a little bit tacky, lol. I'll keep going for now and see how they look when they're finished.
Not much planned for today, I have some more work to do this morning and will be crocheting this afternoon.

No snow here thankfully as I have to drive DD and SiL to north London this morning. DS said it was snowing hard last night 10 miles south so no doubt will see some though I think the roads will be clear.
Tru, I've been making cushion covers in patchwork using different patterns but the same fabrics, hopefully they will blend together.
Dumpling, good luck on your trip out.
My happy thing yesterday was, of course having DD here for the day after her three weeks in India.0 -
Good morning all,
Spooky Friday 13th. Not superstitious in the slightest mind you.
Dry today but bloody freezing.
Yesterday evening I went to my grans for some delicious gigot chops. We had a good laugh and watched a bit of TV together before I headed home to get ready for today. Spicy chicken with broccoli, sprouts and edamame beans is the office lunch for me today.
Tonight I've got some of my friends coming round like I did last week which will be nice. I am absolutely shattered though so hoping it's not a late one.
camelot - third time lucky
TA - I heard on the radio that a number of schools were closed across the country. Worth a check before leaving.
Dumpling - You can do it. Hope the day goes well for you.0
