Energy Club - Eon v ?!

I joined energy club and was heartened that I was likely to save money. I had dual fuel with Eon and have been with them for years, my current contract runs out on 27th January.
Imagine how I felt when I started getting quotes from the Energy Club recommendations. Not one single one was cheaper and in fact was going to cost me quite a lot more money. Not trusting the online quotes I phoned several of the companies to find that the quotes were correct.
I have now resigned with Eon at an extra cost of nearly £40 per month. Although this is obviously down to me I did trust that Energy Club would be accurate and did not start to look around earlier. If I had a could have taken advantage of the fact that there were no exit fees if I switched within Eon and then hopefully extended my advantageous now lost contract.
The only redeeming feature is that I can still look around and if I do find a better deal I can come away from Eon with 'no exit' fees.
First time I have been let down by MSE. Seemed like such a good idea.:(
Would be glad to hear about other peoples' experiences.

The answer is simple: energy prices have increased considerably over the past couple of months: particularly, the cost of electricity. MSE CEC's settings - which YOU play a part in setting - will only advise you of a cheaper deal so I am not sure what point you are trying to make. For his part, Martin has been posting that people should be looking to fix ASAP as prices are on the rise.
Even on a fixed tariff, it is worth running a comparison at least once a month. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I searched each time I got a report from Energy Club and in between. At no time could I find something of better value than Eon while the information I was getting implied that I would save approx. £200!!!
I am a bit long in the tooth not to know my way around and usually do it myself. The point I am making is that it didn't work for me. The final choice was mine to make.
You sound like comments that are cautionary are not welcome!!0 -

Could you explain this further please?
(unless you specifically requested this method of calculation i.e. in line with Ofgem requirements)
Btw, you should only be getting messages from the CEC if you can save money (the trigger level of which you can set yourself)0
