AGA query

Hi, I am wondering if anyone can help us out on something. We're having the kitchen redone, and have inherited an AGA (electric/night storage). I really wanted white quartz or white granite worktops, but the guy who did the templating of the worktop is saying that the area around the AGA might discolour due to the heat from it. I've looked online and can't see much of this - not sure if he just wanted us to get a darker colour of worktops, has anyone got any insight into this? Not much online specifically about AGAs and worktop discolouring... I don't really want to get black (which he said doesn't discolour).

The outside surfaces of an AGA are not that hot, the aim if the insulation in the AGA is to keep the heat inside.
I have just measured the temperature of our LPG AGA , the sides are 33 deg C and the black enamel top is 44 deg C at the side, so I think it is extremely unlikely this type of temperature would cause issues with Granite which forms at over 1200 deg C.
Another point is that worktops should not actually touch the AGA, there should be an expansion gap as the top of the AGA expands and contracts as it heats/cools.0
