    Is that what they have told you the deduction is for or is it your guess?
  • That's just my guess. The email reply i got just stated there would be £15 on the gift card.

    Then ask them why you are only getting £15 instead of £20.
  • I have done but it takes them 3 days to email me back, so am going to ring them tomorrow, was just wondering if they can take money off or not, so I've got something to back up my argument with. But fingers crossed it is just a misunderstanding!

    I don't think it's unreasonable for them to charge you for the cost of issuing a replacement although it's debatable if £5 is reasonable.

    When you buy something that uses up all your gift card value, do they actually warn you to hold onto the now "useless" gift card because if you get a refund it will go back onto it? That's not something most people would expect really.

    If you use that retailer regularly, go into a store and buy a gift card of minimum value. Then ask them to refund onto that card instead.
