Internet is expensive

Options
Have been with VM for 8 years.

Renewed my contract and paying £40 p/m for Broadband 70 and Talk More Anytime.

I would have not bothered but as a parent every school work is done online, and internet is becoming from luxury to necessary.

What are better companies or ways to reduce the price?

Thanks

Is that normal broadband or Fibre? That seems high to me whatever the case. You need to haggle at the end of a deal, check the best deals on the link above and if you need to then swap to a better deal.

Have a look on this site, or comparison sites like gocompare, uswitch etc. I'm paying £25 per month for unlimited broadband, landline and anytime calls with TalkTalk.

I read that 'talk talk' had negative reviews.

They do. But so do most providers. Last time I checked they were about average in CS surveys.

You could go elsewhere and take slower ADSL, which is fine for emails and general browsing, unless you are in a poor speed area. However, as you have just renewed, you are probably locked into a minimum term of 12 or 18 months, so moving would not be cost effective.

You have VM's fibre, and nobody comes close to their speed, not even BT. You'll get it cheaper, but you pay for what you get.

    Incorrect.

A number of providers offer 1Gbps connections now. Openreach now also offer this service but as far as I know, no ISP's yet offer it.
