New 0% offers for existing customers

Options
Hi there,
I currently have a Barclaycard CC which I originally took out on a 0% BT deal a couple of years ago. I have since paid off what I owed at 0% but recently something happened and I had to use it and I am now paying 16.9% interest. They regularly send me offers of new 0% BT deals and I have spoken to them today to see if they would reduce the rate on my existing balance - to which they offered me a rate of 6.9%.
However, there are a number of new offers from new lenders which might be better for me. Tesco and Halifax seem to be the best at the moment - but I wondered if they do the same as Barclays and send through new 0% offers from time to time for existing customers. Then I could just keep juggling back and forth until all paid off.
Do Halifax and/or Tesco make these kind of offers to existing customers? That might determine which one I opt for ...

Thanks in advance

Yes most lenders provide new offers from time to time for existing customers but they are not guaranteed and nearly always have some sort of fee. Probably also based on your account conduct and other credit management via the monthly credit reference agencies feed. I have had a Barclaycard and Halifax new 0% offers but with a 1.9% and 3.0% fee. I can't speak for Tesco as never had a card with them.

MBNA is probably best for me for existing customer offers. None of them are as good as their new customer offers however. Rotating companies rather than using just two may be more effective.

Yes. We have an MBNA card and we can transfer money or a balance at 0% for 12 months any time we like. 3.5% fee for BT and 4% for MT.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

Barclaycard are most generous with existing customer offers for me.

Each month I get 0% offers for about 15 months. The only thing that varies is the fee, usually 0.9%, 1.9% or 2.9%.
  • Thanks for all your replies. I do regularly receive new offers from Barclaycard and looks as though that might also be the case with Halifax. Are there any Tesco Credit Card holders out there who could confirm whether they regularly receive decent new offers as existing customers?

I wouldn't hold your breath on any Tesco offers after the fiasco over their 0% Christmas offer which was only for purchases at Tesco.

Unlike Barclaycard. Tesco don't send me decent monthly offers.
  • I have an existing card with Nationwide who keep offering me 18 months 0% balance transfer for a one off 2.9% fee, so lots of card issuers offer these type of deals
  • Tesco send me (and my wife) 0% offers regularly, at least every 3 months.

We both have stoozed balances at 0% that are being slowly paid off from when opened them (opening offers last 35 months)

The problem with tescos existing offers is that they are usually 12 months or so, and have a fee of 3% or 3.5%, which is okay, but nothing special (and no use for stoozing)

They also keep increasing the credit limits every 6 months or so, so if a tasty 0% offer does come along we'll be able to take advantage of it, but 12 months is too short.

It wasn't a fiasco. The info that it was for spending at Tesco was perfectly clear.

Yes, Tesco offer regular 0% to me (existing customer) but as with bearcat they always have a fee. I prefer to open a new account with a new provider offering me a longer term and no fee :)
