Sky Broadband Weekly Email Offer

Options
Hi,

I'm not sure whether I just made a costly mistake!

I placed a Sky Order for the same package at the start of Jan for £17.40 per month, seeing this offer I was obviously pretty cheesed off but as I was in cooling off period I just cancelled that one without charge via customer service.

I have to wait 24hrs to sign up but thinking about it, I'm worried that it will see me as a previous customer & block the discounted deal. Personally, I would class myself as a new customer still as Sky were not taking over my line until 15/02.

What do you reckon? It was like £60 saving for the year hence why I went for it...

(They tried, in vain, to apply discount to my existing order but as it was "in flight" they told me I had to cancel to take offer.

As with yourself, I signed up with Sky on 4 January to take advantage of their £17.40 a month package, I followed the TopCashBack link to get a cash back of £77.00, which tracked - on Friday 6 Jan complained bitterly to Sky once it became apparent that i had an Activation date of 18 January, which mean't a £30 leaving fee imposed by PlusNet for leaving three weeks prior to my contract ending - was instructed by Sky sales team originally Activation date could be postponed and moved to 9 Feb - this was not true, as such, Sky credited new account with £30 to cover PlusNet leaving charges.

Again, like you, I noticed on Monday this week Sky offering £12 a month Broadband and phone package via the MSE offer - applied for the code, had code dispatched, went back to TopCashBack and re-applied for new contract and applied Code, cost of package dropped to that advertised by MSE. Spoke to Sky about this issue, like you told to cancel original contact and sign-up again, which I did, was also promised both £25 upfront payment and £30 account credit would be paid back - I did the cancellation via their phone service and only after being assured all paid funds and credit payment would be returned, I then canceled and pressed 'Pay' again on their site to get lower cost. Now advised by Sky via email only £25 paid back to my account, so £30 quid has vanished, despite Sky promising to cover PlusNet exit fee charge, one that should not have been applied to begin with - will be back on the phone/chatline today at 8.30AM demanding to know what's happened to the £30 quid - lots of hassle for what should have been a simple switch had Sky honoured what its sales team first instructed - will get Credit refund or cancel again under 14 day cooling off period - really is that simple!
  • I was in a similar scenario back in June last year, I signed up for the £17.40/mth with £100 M&S giftcard.

A few days after that I saw MSE's blagged deal on half price line rental for £8.70/mth and £50 bill credit, saving a total of around £60/year

I called them up to cancel and that I saw a better deal and wanted to sign up using the new deal. They transferred my call to the 'cancellation' department, which is most likely the haggling team, which then offered me the deal of £5/month discount, £50 bill credit and I get to keep the £100 voucher. Total cost summed up to, £12.40*12 - 50 - 100, which is a net gain of £1.20

Anybody have any joy in getting Sky to match this if you already have the TV?

Currently with BT and want to move, best they could offer was £30 a month for unlimited fibre 36mb including line rental.

You say you claimed the £30 as it was charged because Sky would migrate you inside your minimum term, but the £30 (as previously discussed) is PlusNet's standard charge (seeT&Cs) for going to an LLU provider , so not Sky's fault.

Presumably, the cancelled then reapplied contract will mean a different migration date, which could be beyond your minimum term end, anyway, so they don't owe you early migration penalty fees(which the £30 is not, anyway).

The person saying you would get everything repaid, may not have checked the actual reason for the credit and was just stating the usual situation, where fees paid are refunded on cooling off cancellation.

Is topcashback going to work when you use a code supplied by an MSE promotion?

I suspect not as the £5 per month MSE discount is roughly equivalent to the £60 cashback normally available, ie Sky have £60 to give away one way or another.

If that is the case, it makes this a poorer deal than the £17.40 per month with £74 cashback.
