O/S Daily Wednesday 11 January 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is enough.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark, but dry underfoot, air feels colder.

DH up and gone to work, DS1 now going to to work, and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, we also made a start on the HM xmas puds which we served with custard/brandy sauce. Tonight we will be eating HM shepherds pie, roasties, veg and gravy.

Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I got another kitchen cupboard emptied cleaned out, sorted what I use and what I don't, and put everything back after re-arranging how I wanted it. Continued with washing, drying and ironing, and the basket does not have enough in it at the moment to make a load, but may make a start on the beds today. I'm thinking I will go to next town and have a browse round the huge MrS and there's a new big shop that I haven't visited yet as it was packed and people were queueing to get parking spaces before xmas, hoping it will be a little less busy now. I'm not going with the intention of buying anything just to browse and get myself out of the house for a couple of hours, as if the weather is awful tomorrow and Friday I may not get out very far.

I do need to do some housework today, and have a couple of areas that I want to blitz, so once I've been out I will do that. I've been doing some chores and some pleasure things each day - no list - which at the moment seems to be working, as usually I always have a list - maybe it's because I'm not under the normal pressure of having stuff to do in a limited time, so am able to potter about doing things at my leisure, but I was determined this week was not going to be wasted, as I do have a tendency to not be productive then realise at the end of the week I've achieved nothing, and wish that I had been more motivated.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning nmlc and everyone else.

Just finishing porridge. Then need to get some skates on. Gym first thing then I must knuckle down and do some proper work from home. Loads to do and deadlines fast approaching.

Did a freezer dive and planned meals - DH is unknown for this evening. Last night he phoned me at 2115 asking for a pick up. Tonight I'm going to eat early and hopefully the rain will have stopped and I can finally go to running club (haven't been since first session in November because of this horrible lurgy)

Spoked to DSis last night. She had major back surgery on Monday. Seems to have gone well - she's back home already. We're all breathing a sigh of relief - worst case scenario was paralysis. Although she's in some pain because of the wound she says she feels unbelievably well as the excruciating nerve pain is gone. Yay :j

    Have a great day everyone.

  • Good morning everyone, it is blowing a hooligan here, rattling the windows.
I took yesterday as one of my days off this week. Cleaned the cooker as far as I could but it is very old and years of neglect show. I can only get it to a bearable state, not what I would wish. Spent the remainder of the day, after some tidying, doing laundry and knitting a farmyard set for friend's granddaughter.
Am working today and need to fire up the lappy to prepare but first I need to extract it from our bedroom without waking OH.
Last night's dinner was some spare ribs plus a piece of chicken each in hoi sin sauce and at the last minute discovered that someone who shall remain nameless but is responsible for purchase of provisions had forgotten to buy any salad. Ended up offering a very unhealthy meal as I used up the emergency supply of oven chips from the freezer.
DS went out to meet friends for a drink and we had three chocolates each from the box that OH gave me for Christmas. I went to bed leaving a note on top of the box telling DS that the rest were for him. When I came down this morning, he'd eaten those, most of a packet of biscuits, some crisp things with dip that his lady friend had sent to him and some waffles. I know this because all the wrapping was left out for me. There could be other things too but at least he hasn't left other wrappings out.
I'm doing paperwork at home later but OH can cook, I need a full afternoon to work.
Hope that everyone has a good day and that LaineyT's mum's pain is manageable.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning :hello:

When I started walking Scampi again about a month ago, it was obvious that no rules had been followed. He was right back to when we first started – manic barking, yanking, spinning at things, even if they're way off in the distance. I've almost got that back under control (cats excepted!), obviously Scampi has learned all this before so thankfully it's a lot easier this time. I asked mr tru about it, he has a hundred excuses as to why he let this happen. I explained again what the behaviourist said and why she said it – all her words, not mine – and he went off in a sulk.
He's like this with so many things, it's like he has to do the complete opposite to prove you're wrong and he's right. He'll be sarcastic, sulk, speak very loudly and slowly (he did this the other day, instead of ignoring his silly behaviour and carrying on as normal – which usually puts a stop to it - I asked him to speak louder and a bit slower because I couldn't understand him. He then sulked). He's going to find himself on his own if he carries on.

I've been a bit achy the past few days and have hardly slept, so have had nothing to report because I haven't done much :D I've taken over all chicken and dog duties so I've concentrated on that and not much else. The girls are squabbling a bit, I've tried to keep them entertained by hanging up bits of food for them to peck at. They seem to enjoy the challenge of trying to eat half an orange while it's swinging around, lol. I'm taking Scampi out for short walks 3-4 times a day, he starts to panic if he sees too many stressy things while we're out. Little and often it is for now, until he gets his confidence back properly. Must admit I'm enjoying doing things this way, it forces me out into the fresh air and I feel a bit more energic when we get back home.

    Morning All

Very rough outside, hoping the drive to work isn't too bad, I'll leave early just in case.

Builders coming this morning to put a couple of things up on the walls - a plate rack and an ironing board/iron store, also a couple of bits of snagging to be sorted but nothing major.

Not enough washing for a load, probably will have by tonight, DW and bins emptied. At least being back at work means the house is still tidy!

Hope you all have a good day, stay safe in this awful weather. Take care. XX

Right off to take mum to the hospital so DS is dog sitting
Dinner tonight is pie n mash
Gentle thoughts to all those with worries or who are unwell

  • Morning folks and thanks for the start NMLC. When it's daylight I'm sure we will find half the roof laying in the garden! What wind! I was awake half the night listening to banging and clattering above. I'm sure we will find loose ridge tiles and roof tiles missing. Plus the sackless silly b........ across left his bins exposed to the elements as always and they have been clattering around the road all night too! OK rant over!!!

No plans for today other than getting my decluttering head back on again. And a freezer rummage shortly to help me decide today's meals.

We have two of the three DGDs here tonight for sleepover and school run tomorrow - weather permitting, as we look to be in direct firing line for the promised overnight snow. What will be will be and they may be here all day tomorrow too!

Middle DGD has another panto performance this afternoon. She is still loving it and doesn't want the run ever to end!! It finishes end of January and they have just reduced some unsold seats for the final week so we are going again to watch it! DD booked fo rus last night for the evening performance (which DGD is in) on the 24th. (Oh no she hasn't, oh yes she has!!!)

Hope you are all safe in the gales and (((HUGS))) to all in need. LAINEY hope your dm is painfree. Thinking of all the other poorlies, worried and stressed on here too. Get well wishes to those still trying to shake off the bugs doing the rounds. Take care whatever you are up to xx

Lainey, you probably won't see this but you will be in my thoughts.

Dumpling, I forgot to say last night, congrats on getting out to the supermarket, keep posting your milestones.

Tru, that sounds exasperating, I'd be so cross.

DIY continues here, we had a very messy evening so today's job will be degritting everything ready for the next lot of dust. That probably won't happen till Friday night or maybe Saturday though. I need a quick trip to Lidl but then will be hunkering down although we need to be at Heathrow by 6am tomorrow to pick up DD and DH, I just hope the weather isn't too bad by then.

Happy event yesterday was having a chat with lovely DiL. She had a nasty experience walking home from the station a few months ago so I insisted she ring us if DS isn't able to picked her up and as he was in Manchester I went to get her and then stayed for a cuppa and chat. They live in the next town 3 miles away so it's hardly onerous going to collect her and it gives me peace of mind, especially as she often works late she didn't get back till after 9.30 last night).
