Euro payment to Portugal

We need to pay our holiday accommodation in Euros and our Bank (Santander) will charge £25 for the privilege of doing the transfer.

What is the cheapest and best way to transfer Euros from a UK Bank
to a Bank in Portugal (Novo Banco)?
It has taken about 4,500,000,000 (4.5 billion) years for the Earth to form as it is now .........
and it'll only take about another 100 years for mankind to really **** it up!!!!

Just checked back as I did similar back in September for holiday accommodation.
I went into the bank and they did a standard transfer into the owners bank account. There was no charge. Love in Northern Ireland and did this through Ulster bank. Maybe another bank wouldnt charge - do you have any other accounts in other banks ?

Some banks charge less, perhaps £10, but if you send euros they will all get you for 3%+ on the exchange rate spread.

Use a service such as TransferWise, 0.5% fee (for euros) and conversion at the mid-market rate. Very fast and efficient.

Or Revolut, can take a few days, no fees and conversion at the perfect interbank rate (weekdays).

Hopefully your confidence in the accommodation owners by paying by transfer instead of card is well founded.

    Hi

I use Smart Currency - they will charge a flat fee of £5 for transfers under £3k - there are other currency companies around.

Another vote for Transferwise - cheap and quick. I've used them several times.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

And what spread do they put on exchange rates? It looks like you have to sign up to find out...
