Dangerous Road - what can I do?

There is a road near me which I believe to be dangerous. Children are walking (often running / scooters etc) through an alley way onto a road which has no path and is just wide enough for a lorry.

It is impossible for vehicles using this road to see there is an alleyway and it's very hard for children to creep out enough to check traffic due to several residents of that street having plants / bushes in pots on the road.

I have spent 3 months trying to talk to my local council but nobody does anything apart from take my name and give me a reference number.

Any idea how I can get someone to look at this?

I fear a child will be hurt one day.

Aren't the children's parents concerned about this?

They probably won't do much out of fear a child may get hurt one day, if nobody has been hurt so far then maybe it's not quite as dangerous as you think.

If they did something about everything that could be dangerous we wouldn't have roads or cars at all.
  • Ah the good old "lets not do anything until a child is hurt" - that's the spirit.
  • Have you got a google street view link to this alleyway?

    Petition your local council.

This is probably not the best forum to discuss this btw.

Here is where the alley meets the road.

Yeah I know, just trying anything.

I logged a complaint and someone has gotten back already (after a 7 month wait). Same old story, no budget for traffic calming and as no accidents in that spot no case for it.
  • You could also consider writing to your MP, and include diagram and photos.

Something else to consider would be to see if sign or something could be put up with the consent of the local highways dept. Would the local/parish council fund such a thing. Or even residents if it was such a concern?
  • In my opinion that 1 picture tells me nothing and does not show anything dangerous.
