  • I'm cautious of this "class action" until I know more. In the selfish society we live in especially from those at the top we need to be careful.

What if this is a dodgy back handed deal between VW and the law firm? It could all be set up for failure from day 1. The fact that it heavily mentions environment damage is suspicious. It needs to be focused mainly on loss to the owners... lost time, value of car, inconvenience, extra cost for DPF and various other problems such as lower performance ans economy after the so called fix. Emissions is a secondary and weaker argument so why focus on it in the "class action".

We might need to write to VW within a certain number of days to reject the offer to 'fix' it and demand more information and proof. Also, we should offer VW an option now to buy back the car at pre scandal value or we will pursue the case further.
    Peace.

Neither of which has anything to do with the so-called "emissions scandal" then. The VED hasn't and wont change because that's determined by CO2 emissions and MPG hasn't been affected. So, in other words, the car you bought with those factors mentioned is as "green" as it was advertised.

There are many owners who are now experiencing reduced mpg who would not agree with you.

Cars are cutting out, losing power, and ERG valves are failing as they were not designed to cope with increased soot produced after the 'fix'. A new valve costs £1200 at the owners costs. One garage has reported 30 cars back with failed valves.

Add to that the fact that nobody will want to buy one of these cars. Some have already had garages refuse to trade them in. The only garage to take them , at a low value, is a VW garage , but who wants to buy another VW.

All of which has applied to various cars I've owned over the years - only one of which was a VW.

Suddenly everything relates to being VW's fault and now VW either have a very good PR/legal department to stop all of what you're suggesting ending up on Dispatches/Panorama etc or it's simply not happening

    Which is it ?
  • I have one of the vehicles, but when I go to the registration page for a claim, you cannot fill in any details to the questions

Updates only started in July. Give it time.

    Several reports here

    http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/volkswagen-emissions-scandal/

There is a facebook page with plenty of reports of problems.

VW consistently deny there is a problem but then why are they ;bringing out another fix'?
Why are some garages authorised to replace the clogged valves free of charge?
Why are cars that had no such problems up until they had the update suddenly having these problems soon afterwards? These are cars of all ages not just older cars.

Last year we met a guy who worked on the fix at VW and he told us it definitely did affect the running of the car.

After , if it does not affect the running why did they not make them that way on the first place instead of cheating?
Many people are not getting the update done on a car that is running perfectly.

Please can you post the Facebook group name in full? I've tried searching for it but can't find one that has lots of people reporting car problems after the fix.

    Cheers
    Peace.

    I never said it wasn't?

I'm only concerned if the car has any issues after the 'fix', or if the car's resale/trade-in value is affected by all of this.

I've not read too much about either of those potential issues up until now, but it is a concern. For me, apart from it being very reliable and a good car to drive, one of the main reason's to buy a VW was because it holds its value well.

Therefore, if I as a VW owner, am now a little bit circumspect about buying another VW, then its not a huge leap to think that less people will be interested in buying them used, which will mean the value will fall.

So if the only way to make sure I don't lose out because of VW's wrongdoings is to consider joining some kind of legal action, is that wrong? I'm not keen to do it and quite possibly won't as I don't like the compensation culture nowadays. I'll probably end up being the one to lose out it though.
