Virgin Media SIM only offer, too good to be true?

Options
Hi all,

I just got a call from Virgin Media offering me a SIM only deal.
The deal is £5, rolling 30 day contract, 2500 minutes, unlimited texts and 4GB data.

This all seems too good to be true.
Has anyone else had this offer?
How are Virgin Mobile as a provider? I'm currently on EE and have never had any problems with them.

Thanks for any help or advice.

They use the EE signal, and have recently struck a deal with BT (who own EE) to renew their lease of using their signal.

On reflection, Asda had a deal before Christmas, £10 with 10GB of data, some minutes and texts.

But then that's the way sim only contracts have gone in the past 6 months - they're throwing data at people these days as they've worked out that's what people want.

Why would Virgin Mobile phone you out of the blue? Is this a scammer wanting to steal your ID?

The real cost is £12/month. See the Virgin site.

I switched the kids from EE to Virgin Media about 6 months ago when they were offering 'double data' - I think I pay £10 for similar to that you are describing so it sounds like a good deal.

The plan you describe is showing at £12/month on their web site at the moment.

Check if its a 4g contract if 4g speeds are of interest to you.

    My experience...
The switch for me was absolutely painless. Request PAC information from EE and pass it to Virgin Media (EE media will probably try and retain you as a customer at this stage by offering you a deal). On the nominated day, EE sim stops working and the VM sim starts working as your mobile number. My son did this on his way to school then sent text to me saying all was well.

I was happy with this because the phones were/are locked to EE network (some people overlook the fact that the phone might be locked to a network and only find out when the new sim won't work)

We have 2 x EE and 2 x VM handsets in the house. All seem to work just as well.

    Hope this helps.

It was because I'd been a customer for so long. I checked the phone number and it's Virgin Media's customer service number.

They did mention that it's £12 on site, but would be £5 for me as a loyalty discount.

Your original post said you were a customer of EE (nothing to do with Virgin). So are you a Virgin broadband/TV customer? I would still phone them and confirm the offer, as the offer is less than half price and looks too good.

    Sorry, I wasn't clear.

I'm a Virgin Media customer for TV and Broadband. I'm EE for mobile.

The number they called from was 0800 408 9340, which is Virgins number.
