Thanks everyone, this is very helpful! It's a Kia Ceed hatchback not estate we have, and the dog does fit in there but is terrified by the boot closing on her. To be honest she was terrified of the car generally and it has taken a lot just to get her in, but I know she is alright for instance in a crate in the dog walker's van.
We're a family of 3 and don't need a huge car as such, but I would like her in the boot if possible as she feels a bit insecure on the back seat. She's a collie to whoever asked, but quite long.
I like the look of the Skodas and the Kia Soul, the Jazz and Note sound interesting too. The Ceed is fine for us in terms of space, it's purely the hatchback style roof that's the problem, Thanks for all the help it's really appreciated.0 -

Honda Jazz with the magic seats folded up?
(Dog goes in via the side doors and is right behind you)0 -
Have you looked at the Ford B-Max or C-Max? Both have decent boots.0

I know what you mean, I have a smaller dog but I found a lot of hatchbacks unsuitable as the boot was narrow and deep with a thick c-pillar. That's why I went with an estate, flat roof, dog can see out the side (seems to keep him happier) and also a flat load area although I know there's similarly flat hatches and other estates with lips.

The Kia Sportage (2005-2010) has plenty of height in the boot and also has the advantage of being able to open the glass on the tailgate to gain access without them jumping out. And no, you're not alone in buying a car based purely on the dog's needs :rotfl:0
