A few weeks ago I finally reported the problem to BT around 9.30am in the morning. Their fault checking software managed to identify a fault on my line. Around 11am on the same day I heard a ring at the door, it was the BT Engineer!
He found a spurious voltage, which he eventually traced to somewhere in the cabling out in the street which should have been affecting others (it wasn't). However after finding my BT box was still dropping out he replaced that as well. Since it was theoretically an outside fault there was no charge. So very good service overall! The only downside was that he couldn't find and fix a longstanding fault in my upstairs line which he disengaged.
There have been no problems with the Internet since, so fingers crossed.0 -
Haven't thoroughly read this thread, but when you say your upstairs line, do you mean line or extension? If it is extension it could have been part of the problem.
If you desperately need that I would suggest you look in your local phone book or business directory for an independent telecoms engineer. There's quite a few of us around, and we are normally a lot cheaper than BT for internal cabling problems.
Glad they finally managed to (hopefully) solve the problem for you. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
