Faulty dvd

Hi everyone, hoping for advice
Bought a dvd for my granddaughter for xmas, paid cash and can't find receipt, anyway she wanted to play it xmas morning but it wouldn't play. Took it back to shop (HMV) They put it in their player and it played ( typical right? )but they gave me a new dvd anyway. unfortunately this disc doesn't work either. All my other dvds in my collection play fine so whats wrong? Can't take it back again can i?

Did you see it playing in their DVD player?

If it played fine then it sounds like an issue with your player, so outside of getting a new player, not much I imagine.

    What was the DVD?

Sounds like your DVD player rather than any new disc. Are you sure your old discs still play?

Is there a possibility that you've bought a Region 1 DVD and your DVD player is not compatible?

That was a fairly common cause of DVD "faults" when I was working in retail..

It's very unlikely that HMV would be selling a Region 1 DVD.

It sounds like an issue with your player. I checked the Amazon reviews for it and outside of an American complaining about it not working in their Blu Ray player nobody else seems to be complaining about the disc, just the movie itself.
  • This is a long shot but could you have bought a Bluray disc and not a DVD? This could explain why it played in the shop and not at home...and why all your other DVDs play okay for you. And as Daytona0 mentioned, take a look on the back of the packaging and make sure it states 'Region 2'. If it states another number, then it is designed to not play here in the UK.
  • I've had an issue with a region 2 DVD not playing in my region 2 DVD player. Film was Fargo and worked in other DVD players, and I've never had a problem with any other film.

The boxes look very different to DVDs though, they're blue for a start.

    It's possible I suppose

I would have bet my money on blu ray too.
