...again!
Humax Freesat PVR, it's still under warranty so I hope it'll be replaced by JK but it's a flipping nuisance. All those lovely Christmas and New Year programmes saved up all gone.
Its my second one in two years.
This should be in the vent thread, sorry!

and after the 6 mths period you may be offered 1/24th of the buying price and told to go away , the previous replacement would omnly be covered by the origional warrenty , not extraSave a Rachael

The hard drive and a replacement also died on my parent's PVR - both within 18 months They had it stored in a cabinet with other electrical goods...heat and no ventilation. Thought I'd mention that as apparently the second time around the serviceman did ask where the PVR was kept....and suggested that the heat build up can kill them over time!0

Might not be the hard drive, could be either a loose cable to the drive or a power supply problem.
Pity it will be awarranty exchange - there is a program which will get the recordings off the humax drive and put them on your computer if the drive is not faulty.0 -

Everything else works on it, just recordings gone, no hard drive found, shows 1% used (was 20% yesterday) and bloody annoying.
What programme can get the recordings off? Thznks0 -
Why bother with PVR, stream or download whatever you want, use Netflix, Amazon and Plex.tv to supplement.
Easier to download than waste time recovering.
It's Freesat, not cable. We only get a few Freeview channels and five terrestrial ones here. Broadband download is 1.7mbs on a good day.0 -

No heat, it's on the top of bedroom drawers in an old cottage. Unfortunately plenty of ventilation.
I've got an old Humax at my mum's house which is used in the spare bedroom. It's Freeview and has programmes on from about 2008. In my experience it's been the Freesat ones which fail.
I'll speak to JL and Humax tomorrow morning.0 -

The reason I still use mine is to record programmes on ITV etc so that I can fast forward through the adverts!
ITV player, All 4 etc won't let you do that for obvious reasons. You can fast forward through the programme but not the endless ad breaks!0 -
Bizarrely they are all back this morning, glad I checked before phoning JL.
When I get back home I'll move the 'important' stuff to an external hard drive.
Yes, I use it mostly to avoid ad breaks and dull parts. Channel 5's demand service My5 doesn't have any ads on the programmes.0 -
The program which will get the recordings off the Humax hard drive is called HUMAXRW
BUT
to use it you have to remove the drive from the Humax and put it in a drive caddy and connect that to your desktop/laptop - there's 3 screws (I think) in the back of the box then another 4 screws holding the drive down inside the Humax.
It worked fine in Xp and Vista but would probably have to be run in compatibility mode in Win10
As the drive is showing some space used there may not be a fault with the drive itself but if you take it out yourself then you would invalidate any warranty. I would only advise trying this on a faulty machine which is about to be exchanged ONLY IF there is absolutely no sign of any sort of seal on the Humax unit as breaking any such seal would definitely invalidate your warranty.
When the unit is exchanged you could try offering them a token amount of say £5 for the drive as it's faulty - you never know, they might take it.0 -

Well, that didn't last long, managed to watch one programme before it just stopped playing the recording and came up with 'no recordings' message. I'm resigned to it and will phone this afternoon.0
