I'm looking at buying a new build house but it backs onto a DVSA LGV Test Centre. There appears to be a lane that would go right next to the house that says BRAKE LANE. Does anyone know if this would be loud? What times would tests usually be between?

Are you sure that isn't the name of the lane rather than its purpose?

Are your street names written in white paint on the floor?

Yeah. Like written in caps on the floor. Assume it's for testing emergency stops?

Can't find the opening hours, gov site doesn't give any. Google suggests 8am-8pm everyday. Says they test motorcycle module 1 off road, cars and lorries, large vehicles and buses. I don't see an off road part of land though.

The brake test is within the confines of the test centre, where i took mine there was a ramp so if you failed to brake at all then you would go up the ramp which was very steep and had a 6ft thick wall also.

  • Test centres don't usually work weekends, but during the tests you will hear a lot of air brakes operating and lorry engines being revved hard, complaining to the council won't make a scrap of difference, they have a job to do and take it seriously they do, thankfully.
Maybe a few hours hanging around outside would give you an idea what to expect, and you could always find the number of the centre and ask them about opening hours, some dealer workshop based sites open at 6am.
