Dual car insurance - advice on which company to use please

Hi
We are about to get a third car as a little nippy run around (Alfa Mito 850cc) and it will be insured in my wifes name as she will be the main driver. She has 14 years plus no claims but apparently has to start again with this other car!
We have looked on Mr Goodle and apparently some companies will "mirror" your no claims bonus on a second car - now surely this is just the same or at least it is the same end result and we wondered if anyone else has had experience of this sort of policy and who you purchased it through or with please?
thanks
Michael

Depends on your circumstances, Lots of insurers may mirror the no claims or offer a discount.
Try the company your insured with now.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
yes tried the existing insurance (Provident) and they don't offer dual vehicle policies so tried my insurer (Hastings Direct) and they said we had to start again at zero with the no claims for the new car!

You don't necessarily need a "dual vehicle policy". You can start one from scratch, with a completely separate insurer to the one insuring your main car, and if you can offer a copy of your NCB from the main car a lot of policies will at least give you something.
Just ring around. You're probably best of trying a broker and letting them do the leg work for you.0 -
Use a comparison site and enter your details. I find MoneySupermarket good. Doesn't cover all insurers but will give you plenty to choose from.0

Also Churchill, Direct Line and Aviva also do multi-car - but while was a good deal for me - Aviva went up and I found separate policies WAY cheaper.

Yes, the trouble with multi-car policies is they can be cheap for one car but not competitive for the other even with the supposed 'multi-car discount'. I found much better quotes doing my cars seperately. The depressing thing is how bad reviews are of nearly all insurance companies. The main issues are:
1) rip-off charges for simple changes or even corrections before the policy has started
2) Call centres that let you grow a beard (men only) waiting for them to pick-up.
3) Passing you off to ambulance chasers if you report a non-fault claim
4) Not being remotely interested in getting a claim resolved
5) Agreeing 50/50 liability when it clearly shouldn't be0 -
I don't think the policy holder necessarily has to be the main driver, as long as the main driver is correctly specified.
Some companies (eg Privilege) give a full NCD to a named driver on him/her taking out a new policy. Is your wife named on your own policy? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

So I think 1) depends who you pick - to be fair to with Aviva I was able to do everything online easily - from add European cover to breakdown to updating mileage midyear.! That solved 1&2. I was hit from behind and didn't get 3,4 or 5.
So Aviva are not all insurers - BUT none of these are these issues exclusive to multi-car insurers surely?I am just thinking out loud - nothing I say should be relied upon!

No I didn't say they were did I?
BTW have you checked reviews of Aviva on ReviewCentre? Pretty poor by all accounts.0
