Hi were are travelling to St Lucia at the end of Feb 2017 and wondering about what currency to take? Do we take US dollars and convert once we get there? Do we take travellers cheques?

The currency of St Lucia is the eastern Caribbean dollar (XCD, EC$). You can exchange pounds in the banks, it would be pointless to buy US dollars first and exchange twice. Travelers cheques are history, the MSE way is to use suitable fee-free cards for travel, directly for purchases and to draw cash from ATMs:
