The best overall site for booking or finding accommodation is the go lakes site at www.golakes.co.uk . Most places will be a lot quieter after half term but which week is it you are going? Different places have different half term weeks and the price can vary a lot at holiday times.0

The boot inn in eskdale comes highly recommended- particuarly the beer and food.-http://www.bootinn.co.uk/SpecialOffers.htm if you can wait until nov they have three nights dinner bed and breakfast for £135 p/p which is seems a very good deal.
also not sure when half term prices rise as bolton schools half term starts 20/10- whilst mine also in the north west is the week later- taking you well into nov0 -
We stayed at this amazing cottage called "The Cottage, High Oxen Fell". It is very rural but has unbelievable views and great wildlife. I would really recommend it. We booked via Cottages4you.co.uk.
The link is http://www.cottages4you.co.uk/uce/c4y?view=details&action=readDetails&cottageId=409558&holidayPark=N&sleeps=2&propertyTypeId=&complexId=
If that doesn't work the property reference number is 948.
Also if you are an AA member you get 5% off cottages4you bookings.
Have a good trip.

We have stayed several times at Gillside in glenriiding on Ullswater the caravans are brand new and the site offers superb views of the surrounding mountains. Prices are £40 per night or £240 per week for a 6 berth.

You could try the Langdale Country Club which has hotel rooms and self-catering rental of timeshares (usually one weeks duration). Their website is not exactly the easiest to use and some of the photos are not up to date of the insides of the timeshares.

We own a Langdale Chapel Stile timeshare week (sadly not the week you are looking for) and it's ideal for couples. Our timeshare is in the same complex as a great pub called Wainwrights and it's much quieter and more scenic than the timeshares on the main Langdale site. The local Chapel Stile Co-op is just fantastic too and it's only across the road. The main Langdale site has a lovely pool, sauna, steam room, squash court, fitness suite, 2 more restaurants, a beauty salon.
Many of the local cottages also have seekly membership of Langdale facilities included in the rental prices. A good rental agency is Wheelwrights.

It's also a perfect place for a first time visit to the lakes as you are right in the middle of Lakes area but not too near the hoardes of tourists that invade Bo'ness and Ambleside. There are great walks along the Great Langdale valley, over to Little Langdale, to Elterwater or Grasmere.0 -
Hawkeshead is a beautiful place to stay and fairly central. We've stayed in mobile homes there. I searched for Hawkeshead and found this:

Anywhere where in the lakes is wonderful. It is lovely but it rains and rains so be prepared......lol you'll have a lovely time

Gutted - just returned from a few days in the lakes. I've been to Ambleside twice this year and can recommend it for ease of access to loads of lakes, enough facilities to see you through the week but still quiet and not the hustle and bustle of the larger towns. We booked our last place 'the gables' through heart of the lakes which had fantastic views over Ambleside and to the mountains as it's up in the gables (bet the name gave it away!) We've also stayed in the Gale Lodge Stables in Ambelside which were an idylic and romantic getaway for 2 - book through Lakelovers (I think!), although there's no particular views.
You'll love anywhere you stay around ambleside - have you a spare case I could hide in??
Enjoy and get out with yer boots!!

I can't advise on places to stay b&b wise as me and my partner normally camp when we go, but Pooleybridge just outside of Penrith is a beautiful place to visit. plenty to do there aswell, we visited the bird of prey centre, climbed the mountain 'Hellvellyn' theres also a boat trip you can take across the lake, and a waterfall walk which looked amazing, we plan on doing that next time
no wins as of yet
