Halifax / TSB / Lloyds / BOS - phone authentication

If i set up a new payment then as you'll know you can set it to call home or mobile as 2 possible options.

If i select mobile then no problem. It calls the mobile, enter the code, job done.

Except my signal strength is very hit & miss at home so it's better for me to select the home phone. Only thing here is for a while now it rings the home phone & i answer. It doesn't matter whether i pick up super quick or wait a few seconds but when i pick up there's nothing. The line is dead.
So i hang up & then it calls again & then goes through the process.

Does anyone else get this? It happens with each of the banks listed. I'm aware they're connected which is why it'll happen on all of them :) Just i don't get why it does it.

My First Direct mobile app always gives a network connection error on first attempt to open but always works on the second attempt.

Works perfectly on my landline, on both my TSB and Halifax accounts.

I'm new to BOS and have set up a few new payees recently. Yes, this happens every time on my home phone. It's bad. They need to sort it.

Yes, I noticed this too - it's been like this for several years.

If you listen very closely, the first 'ring' happens, then the the second 'ring'. third 'ring' etc. However, there is a slightly longer delay between the first and second 'ring'. Its subtle, but noticeable.

It's almost as though they make 2 separate phone calls. First phone call lasts a split second (1st 'ring') then a 2nd call is made straight after (2nd 'ring' and so on). If you happen to answer within the first 'ring', then you hear nothing.

I wait until after the 2nd 'ring' to answer. :)

I set up quite a few payments last year with Lloyds, Halifax and latterly TSB (haven't got any BOS accounts) and had no issues when using house phone. I certainly never noticed anything like karli88 has posted and have answered and used successfully after first ring or multiple rings of the phone.

    After first ring is fine.

It's when you answer within the first ring. Try it next time, stand by the landline, press submit on your laptop/tablet to generate the code and answer swiftly. :D

I've never had this problem with Lloyds, Halifax or TSB.

If you set up the mobile app, you can use that to approve payments, and also add payees. That way there's no need for them to call you.

I added a new payee on TSB the other day and wasn't even asked to complete it!

Edit: This was via app but I'm sure that I've been asked to complete it via app before.

Yes, I use TSB and I've experienced the same issue on a couple of land lines. No problem using my mobile.
