O/S Daily Sunday 8 January 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is enough.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, but grey, damp and dreary and dreich.

Tea, coffee and breakfast happening here, we're going out for lunch later but have some jobs to do first.

Dinner last night was roasted chicken pieces, bbq spare ribs, savoury rice, picky bits and side salad. Lunch will be whatever everyone chooses from the menu, I'm hoping roast beef is one of the roasts of the day choices! I don't very often fancy roast beef but today I do!

Keep safe and well x

Morning nmlc and all who follow. That was close - almost started the thread myself!!

Panto was fab-u-lous with Craig from SCD as Hook. Everyone enjoyed it and as it was the last show of the run, it made for some risqu! adlibbing. My nephew 17 who lost his brother is not doing well and has exams looming. The school know what has happened but he is really panicking that he won't do well. Another worry for DSis.

Today DD is back to rugby training. It is damp here but not raining so should be a good morning. Roast pork and trimmings for lunch and another ironing pile to tackle. My beloved Spurs are on BBC later so I will watch the game whilst ironing - living the dream here.

Hugs to all the poorlies and sad, especially Lainey and Hester. Hilstep, you remain in our thoughts, hope you are okay xxx

    Have a good day all,
    Coxy

Thank you Coxy, the school can request an exam concession for your nephew, that will help towards his results.
It's damp here today but I will go for a walk later and try to persuade my L&M to come too.
After DGD went home yesterday I spent time in the kitchen, sorting out the fridge and the food cupboard.
I made a massive vegetarian curry and rice, 6 portions that will do for my evening meals next week, my L&M is on the late shift and won't want to eat when he finishes at 10ish.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Good morning,

I managed a good night sleep with only minimal waking up, am breathing better so I really hope to be on the mend, although very weak. I understand that the weakness lasts a few weeks after the flu so I will be taking it very easy for a while.

Something sad that I did not share here yet is that a few days ago DH's cousin had a massive stroke and is being cared for in a hospital, on the south coast, so we will need to visit him soon. DH wanted to go straight away but I persuaded him to wait as it would not be good to take our germs there, and we are not very fit ourselves to drive around. So we will go on Tuesday if we both feel well. How much sadness already and 2017 has only just begun.

I am really looking forward to going back to our church today, not only for the spiritual side of things but also to reconnect with our lovely community. What a dreadful mistake it has been to travel abroad this Christmas, thinking that we could have it better than at home, it brought only misery. I hope we will be still here and well next year and I won't be making that mistake again.

Yesterday I paid the holiday bills on the credit card and it was a horrendous expenditure, I would not have minded it if at least we had a good time, but hey ho, what's done is done, end of moan.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you who are suffering a loss, who are unwell or who have a dear one who is unwell.

    Have a good day.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Hope the family is doing as well as can be expected, Hester. It's a living nightmare and will take a lot of time to heal

    Morning everyone.

Thanks for starting us off nmlc.

There's thick fog here which is blanketing the sea, and it's rainy. Not really weather for going out.

Overnight news from Oz is good, baby is expected to go home today, I get confused about 'today and tomorrow ' as QLD is nine hours ahead of us. A name has been decided but they are quibbling over middle names. My brother saddled them all with the most ridiculous middle names so I'm hoping that it's not a family trait. Have to say I'm not keen on what they've chosen for a first name but it's not my baby and not my choice. :)

I seemed to have had tons to unpack from the car yesterday though I had picked up my ordered stuff from JL and done a small amount of shopping. DM was a lot better yesterday when I left though not fully recovered. She will insist on doing things which are too taxing and then mumbling about being whacked. Seems that her being nearly 89 years old hasn't sunk in yet!

My plan was to potter in the garden today but that's been scuppered, instead I'll catch up with some recorded TV.

I've found a potato day in Glasgow at the end of February which I want to go to for my first foray into growing some. I wanted to start the prep but it'll have to wait.

Now I'm going to read the final three chapters of my book which I'm really not enjoying. The author is determined to explain every little forensic procedure, every authentic police procedure and so on, not enough of the story which is interesting enough to make me read through it.

I hope everyone has a good Sunday.

    Morning All

Overcast and dull here but not raining yet. I have all the windows open to give the house a good airing - got all the housework done yesterday, I want to go back to work knowing that the house is at least clean, tidying is an on-going battle!

Had a lovely meal of steak pie last night at friends house, I was saying to Mr friend that I missed his steak pie at new year so it was made last night, clean plates all round, even the children. I had bought a reduced lemon tart from Waitrose yesterday which was really yummy, wouldn't have paid £5 for it but £2 was well worth it.

Going to buy some logs today as the stash has dwindled, also need to get a few grocery supplies.

Glad the baby is doing well Gers.

Enjoy your Sunday. Take care. XX

Gers glad the baby is well. I feel your pain re. dragging along a book with too many details and not enough story, but don't feel you have to finish it, life's too short!

    Tm2 thank you.

Morning everyone, thanks for the thread nmlc.

Weather is dull and dreary, that nothing kind of weather which is my least favourite. We are cosied up warm mind and have just enjoyed our usual bacon butties, the girls always have a rasher each as well, bit of a Sunday tradition really.
Off to the hospice soon, DM was really quite confused and restless yesterday, she couldn't really remember a visit from her eldest brother and slept most of the time apparently. After speaking to DB las night we have decided to make visits close family from now on, this will obviously include her brothers but not so many friends.
We are planning to stay until mid afternoon but this will obviously depend oh how DM is, my DOH is also a big Spurs fan Coxy so if we do get home on time he will be glued to the tv whilst I get the chook in the oven.
Good news about the baby Gers and also that your mum is feeling a bit better.
Thinking of Hester and also HIllstep.

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

    Morning all,

Bit damp and dismal here I have stripped the beds and got them in the wm it will have to go in the TD today.

Spent yesterday on the sofa alternating between shivering and boiling hot this cold really has been a bad one as it keeps coming back, feel a bit better today so hopefully it was just a 48 hr one !

Going to cook a roast chicken for dinner today, the rest of the chicken can be had tomorrow with some mash and salad.

DD is going to nip to Mr T to get herself some lunch bits for the week (I think she just likes driving tbh :) )

I will have to do an online shop today for later in the week.

    Lainey hugs to you xx

Coxy surely the school must be able to offer him some kind of assistance given the circumstances ? xx

Gers glad the baby is ok xx

    Have good days all xx
