I lived in Helensburgh for five years, but commuted to Glasgow on the train. Scotrail prices weren't too horrendous then, no idea of the cost now?

I think any car journey done regularly becomes a drag!
I frequently drive through the most beautiful countryside and have been known to sigh about it. When we lived in Newcastle the A69 towards the M74 became annoying.
It's the traffic on any commute which makes it difficult, a long 'easy' drive without problems is always better than sitting in a jam or slow moving queues.
Cardross is lovely. Arrochar I could live without but it has easy access to Glasgow. It's the bit of road coming up to the geese roundabout which is usually jammed, hugely so in summer and less bad in winter.0 -
Unless you have some particular reason for wanting to be south of the river you'd be giving yourself a longer and sometimes awkward commute unnecessarily because there are plenty of good areas round Helensburgh (have you dismissed Helensburgh itself?) - though I wouldn't really include Garelochhead!
There is never much property available in your price range in Garelochhead and Arrochar anyway.
Best areas I think are Helensburgh, Cardross, Bearsden, Milngavie but if "near Helensburgh" as you describe your workplace, means the base, you would be pushing it for a 20-25 minute journey from Bearsden/Milngavie.0 -

What does that have to do with the OP?
What is so difficult to understand about what you're seeing on RM? Either the property has sold and the estate agent hasn't updated the advert, or there was a closing date but either no offers were made or the vendor didn't accept any of the offers that were made so the property is still up for sale. It's not rocket science.0 -

What is so difficult to understand about what you're seeing on RM? Either the property has sold and the estate agent hasn't updated the advert, or there was a closing date but either no offers were made or the vendor didn't accept any of the offers that were made so the property is still up for sale. It's not rocket science.
It was the only house in the recommend location of Bearsden that came close to meeting the "less than 5 years old" requirement.
If it's still up for sale why leave a past closing date?
If you haven't set a new closing date does that mean you are open to immediate offers?0 -

It probably means it's under offer but they haven't got round to updating the listing. If you want to find out then give them a call.0 -
I suppose maybe something's got to give as finding somewhere built in the last 5 years and less than 20 minutes away is going to be tricky. I can't think of many areas other than the ex ROF land which would tick all of those boxes. Bearsden to Helensburgh is going to take about 40 minutes.0
