Switching from BT broadband takes how long

I want to switch from BT broadband at the end of my current contract, to Sky.
It looks like the minimum switch time is 10 working days, so is it safe to initiate the switch 10 working days before end of BT contract?
I don't want to pay a cancellation/termination fee with BT but I don't want to pay too much days of the increased cost after the end of my contract.
Also am I going to come acropper with the 30 days notice thing - eg initiate switch on 19 Feb, switch on 1 Mar, but pay both BT and Sky between 1-19 Mar?
Thanx

Speak to sky , they will manage the switch , if you are lucky there's virtually no break in serviceEx forum ambassador

Thanks. I don't want to void my cashback though by involving a call centre, not to mention that most call centres give out duff info some of the time.
Does anyone else know if the 10 working day thing is a reliable indicator?0 -
Think mine was 14 days a year ago.0

I think I'd balance running a few days extra on the old contract against potentially hours on the phone trying to sort out a mess/reclaim money.
Also, there should be a final bill when any payments made to BT, covering time after you've moved, *should* be refunded.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Thank you. I found this which I guess must be accurate although I have never heard Martin mention it:ofcom wrote:You have a ten working day period from the date your new provider notifies your old provider during which you have a right to cancel your request to switch without being charged.
Am surprised it has not been mentioned more on here, there must be loads of people confused about 30 day notice periods and wanting to time the switch date just right. Thanks again0 -
That's 10 days to cancel your switch
and go back to how things where.
That's how I read it.0 -
Typically 3-4 weeks for a non LLU to LLU switch, but ultimately it depends on the OR workload at your exchange. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I cancelled my BT broadband just before Christmas after my 12 months with them was up. The changeover period was just 2 weeks exactly (moved to Plusnet).0
