O/S Daily Saturday 7 January 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is enough.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light here, but foggy and a bit yukky.

DH up and gone into work, to help his boss out, I'm enjoying first peaceful cuppa of the day as both boys still in their pits.

Dinner last night was HM turkey, chicken, bacon and mushroom pie, chips, peas and gravy, I and DS2 had the alternative jacket potato - all very much enjoyed and no LO's (which I don't mind as the turkey was the last of the xmas turkey and the chicken was from the other night when I defrosted too much.) I did wander whether DH might moan as the meat was obviously LO's and not just fresh cooked into chunks, but he didn't - I think the fact that it was packed full of meat helped. Really pleased as it was a good "use up" meal, and I still have 2 bag fulls of turkey stock in the freezer, so this year's turkey has given us loads of meals. Dinner tonight is going to be roast chicken pieces, spare ribs in bbq sauce, savoury rice, and I've still got some picky bits in the freezer to use up, so we'll have some of those also. The store cupboard is still full to bursting - when I did the shopping yesterday I tried to put the new shopping in and I've struggled and had to put some shopping in different cupboards - that definitely means next week shop can be a small one, and I'll be going through what I have and making drastic cuts to the lists. Like most of us I do have a skeleton list that I write ongoing each week, but obviously from the struggle yesterday playing tetris to get it all in, I'm obviously buying more than we're using and it's now too much - I can't even see properly into the cupboard to see what we have got - I'm going to have to empty it - to do a proper inventory - best leave that to I'm here on my own then!

Yesterday I did get some chores done, although I didn't get all the "to do" list done, washing, drying and ironing nearly up to date, there's the menfolk's work clothes from yesterday to go in the WM this morning. I'll just potter along and do as I please today.

Keep safe and well x

    Good morning,

A very foggy morning here and Himself and I are both full of cold. He had 2 medical appoinments last week and I am sure we caught this bug in the waiting room of one of them.

I wanted to send my love to Hester and to say how very sorry I am over the death of her great niece, what a dreadful thing to happen. Sleep well little one.

    Much love

    Morning everyone,

Dull and overcast here, just been out to fill up the bird feeders and it doesn't seem as cold though.
This morning will be a catch up on chores and then over to see DM this afternoon, I was so tired when got home yesterday that we just had a pizza out of the freezer instead of the salmon had planned so will eat the fish tonight with some cauli rice.

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

    Morning all.

Very damp here but it feels milder than yesterday.

Condolences HH, so sad for everyone.

On the opposite side I learnt of the birth of a great nephew in Queensland yesterday. His father is the youngest brother of the nephew who died last year so very emotional all round. The good news is a bit tempered as I've just had a text to say that baby has 'issues' and has been moved to a main hospital. No details yet.

My DM had a bad day yesterday, she took a senna pill prescribed by her GP which was most 'efficacious' (like Lily the Pink song) for most of the day! Eventually it all stopped and she slept. She's now vowing to never take another one!

This morning I'll do her Saturday shop for her and then head back home. Despite it being very warm in her place I miss my cold but cosy cottage. I was talking to a neighbour the other day about hot homes and she said her mum is the same. I prefer an extra jumper and socks with the woodburner blazing to the stuffy central heating heat. I know, it's odd.

    Anyway, thoughts to Lainey.

    Happy Saturday everyone.

Hester I'm so sorry to hear about Jessica x RIP little one xx

Lovely news Gers congratulations! Hope everything turns out well for the little man x

Just done three loads of washing, I thought I'd get it out of the way early so I can spend the rest of the day doing nice things that I actually enjoy :D
I've got cards, wrapping paper and gift tags for all occasions in various places, I'll gather them all up and sort through them. I had a Gift Supplies Area (as I called it, lol) but things have been moved around since so I want to make a new organised space for it all. I'm going to sort through my baby blankets, I need to get them up for sale but am having problems taking nice photos, I can't find the right background so it all looks a bit wrong. Also need to make care tags for them.

New season of NCIS started last night, I'm looking forward to watching that this afternoon.

  • Tru, we watched NCIS last night and I think it promises to be another good season.

On another tac have you watched the latest Father Brown in the afternoon. They must have new writers because I thought it was a load of rubbish. Mark Williams and Sorcha Cusack were their usual brilliant selves, but my goodness the story lines were so far fetched, more than usual, that they were almost laughable

    Good morning OSers,
Big hugs to all who need or want one.

Warmer here today, we had rain over night but is staying dry for now.
Not much planned for today just yet, will take pooch out a little later as long as it stays dry. I wanted a NSD but have just realised I am out of dog food, so quick trip to Morrisons it is. I will call the grand parents and see if they need anything whilst down that way.
Might sit and organise this months finances, paid off the Christmas credit card yesterday, had to find an extra £60 for the surprise vet bill-definitely wasn't in my December budget, but these things can not be helped, just glad she is better now.
Time to shower and crack on with our day I suppose.
Have good days all. Stay warm and safe xx

  • Good morning everyone.
Very grey and dull here. We've had the wood burner lit for the past few evenings and, even though we make sure it's out each night, I can still feel warmth coming from the remains this morning, which is lovely.
Only need to pop out for the newspapers today as we have chilli left to eat later on, along with a jacket potato. I may get round to making a cake as we have only a few biscuits left - they are chocolate gingers though - DH's favourite!
Yesterday we went out walking for a couple of hours and I wore my new winter hat. I've never really been a hat person but it kept me warm and dry so maybe I'll be converted. I'm definitely a glove person though, as my hands get very cold plus scarves to keep my neck warm.
Hope all does well for you today and thinking especially of those going through difficult times. xx
