My Parents/family home - had a dado rail - wallpaper below, and painting above and over ceiling.
My current semi - similar in age and build style, does not - I miss it - why - it's the easiest, most convenient place to hang pictures/paintings on. Otherwise, you are stuck with sticking fixings into the wall, which become a pain when you re-paper - if you take out the 'fixing' how much plaster do you end up having to redo!?

Don't take out the fixings! Just push the new wallpaper over them so they poke a hole through it.

Thanks again guys. It won't let me post the link for the wallpaper but it is from lanacashire wallpaper . co.uk And it's the silver Crocodile skin one. Sounds random but it's amazing . I was so pleased when I got the sample. Fab quality.

    Ha! :T

Are you confusing a dado rail with a picture rail?

I'm all for picture rails. Whereas I think dado rails are nice in precisely the right building :) and a bit weird in the 'wrong' buildings! Maybe it's just cos I love putting up pictures!

    That's an expensive wallpaper....

    How about this room.

Wood paneling on the lower section, and polished plaster on the rest of the wall. Suits a certain type of property and isn't to everyones taste.

I'm really interest in polished plaster. I nearly had an addition to the team that does it, but I don't. :o

I'd opt for a softer colour, for some reason. I think because I'd like it to look like stone. I'm pretty bold otherwise.

I've just mixed a bucket up, and it should be ready to use by the end of the month. Wanna have a go ?
