Hi, firstly apologies if this is the wrong section. It was the best fit in my eyes.
I'll try and keep this concise as I know I waffle. I guess if people who could help need more info they would ask.
Back in Jan '16 I renegotiated my Sky TV contract for a better deal, and agree to a new 12 month contract. Come Jan '17 I want to cancel entirely only to be told my contract does not end until April (but my 12 month offer ends in Jan).
Rattling my brains I realise back in April I received an email offer for 50% off my package. Clicked and accepted. Quickly (I mean in a matter of hours quickly) realised this was a mistake as my current deal was better. Contacted their online live chat who removed the new offer and reverted me back to my existing offer.
It is here that my contract has been extended. The new offer required a new 12 month contract. But, if by realising my mistake and cancelling that offer, why do I still have the new contract length? Is that even right?
Contacting Sky I was told they can't change my contract length back to January, and would not waive the cancellation fee to cancel early. Leaving me with either paying full whack for 3 months, or entering into a new contract for 12 months where there would be an offer price for 10 months. I accepted the new offer while I take my issue higher up as I cannot believe it right they keep the new contract length after I realised my mistake and asked for the April offer to be removed.
To boot, the new email received this evening stated in the T+C that I have a 30 day cooling off period to change my mind. The guy on the phone said the same in his spiel. But, when I clarified it with him (as surely I enacted this Cooling off back in April and therefore should not have this extended contract length) he told me that doesn't apply! Surely not? If it is in black and white I should get that?
I shall be emailing and making complaints, but just wanted to see what my chances were like.
Thanks

Do you have proof that it was cancelled?0 -
I do not have proof on paper.
I do have the customer service advisor confirming that an offer was taken up on the account, then removed.0 -
If you have confirmation that the offer was removed and/or cancelled then what you are saying is valid, more so if you have not been paying the discounted rate (50%) and have all this time been paying what you were originally on the twelve month contract you originally took out.0

It maybe true that the Sky Advisor doesn't have the ability to cancel a contract early and remove early cancellation fee. But he/she should have taken time to understand how you got into this situation and passed it on to someone who can authorise an early contract termination with no penalty.
Sky are very flexible with things if it means keeping you as a customer. But as you're wanting to leave, they don't have to be flexible at all.
If they won't see common sense and allow your contract to end without penalty, I guess it will come down to what you actually said when you cancelled back in April.
If it was something like - "I want to cancel the contract that I recently signed up for. After that has been cancelled can I return to my previous contract, including it's remaining length" Then they would have to allow you to leave penalty free.
If it was something along the lines of - "This new discount I've signed up for isn't as good as my last one, can I revert back?" Then what they have done is applied your old discount (including i's original end date) and not change your current contract length back to your previous contract.
I suspect it was the latter scenario that happened.
Technically they are correct.
Morally it is quite obvious that they should allow your contract to end when your deal does.0 -
Saw on my Sky account under upcoming subscription charges that my current deal will go up in March. My current contract started in July 2016 and it was 25% off Sky Sports 1 only and Original bundle.
I read there is a 30 day rule that you can cancel penalty free if there was a price rise you weren't informed of when you sign up. Will I be entitled to do that?
I have been a Sky customer since 2010, but I am wondering do they consider your current contract or the number of years you have been with them.0 -

Current contract only although they may thank you for being a loyal customer which is generally Sky speak for mug I'm afraid.
You can do much, much better than 25% off btw and you may want to mention them losing all of the Discovery channels: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/55922640 -

A deal coming to an end is not the same as a rise on the full price.
Those who agreed to the 50% off for 10 months, will have to pay two months at full price, as that was their deal ; 12 months minimum term with 50% off for 10 of those months.
I believe that the imminent price rise is for line rental, so doesn't affect tv.0
