    It's not that long ago that there were no such things as "best before" & "eat by".

    Forty years ago, when I was a kid, my parents had a sweet shop. For Christmas the chocolate companies used to produce large gift boxes of chocolates, usually with pictures on the front (hense the description of a painting as being "chocolate boxy"). There was little demand for these boxes of chocolate the rest of the year and so any left after Christmas were put into storage until next Christmas, when they were put back on the shelf for sale.

    My parents don't recall any problems with these chocolates.

    Unless chocolates are made differently now, so that they degrade faster, I think I'd risk these Roses at this price.
