  • Thank you Littleholly for your very informative answer. Very kind of you to take the trouble to reply. I must say though from lurking round the various boards that "compers" generally seem a friendly lot which is not at all what a newbie would expect. I would have expected cut-throat competition, but the regular posters here seem to be very supportive of each other. Very nice to see. Anyway, good luck to you and thank you once again.

:santa2: Hi Lo. I think most of us almost enjoy other compers winning as much as we do ourselves.

We are a happy community thank you for joining us. May your comping be productive.

    Hi
There are a few ways of being informed of a win. I find the most common way is the prize turning up unexpectedly. A lot of companies don't inform winners beforehand and just send out the prize. A wem is also very common though. For 'big' prizes you would normally receive a phone call or letter. It all depends on the company and their t&c's.
It can take various times for prizes to be received, sometimes a couple of days later, sometimes months later. I know theres a few people still waiting for prizes from summer. Thats not common though and you would normally expect to wait upto 28 days.
I've always received exactly what I am meant to and had no substitutions or items missing. I know other people have had some problems with prizes but again it differs between company.
and lots of mse'rs inform others when they win:D incase they missed it:rolleyes: that was how i found out about my oli tv win:D

    Xmas Saver!
How is everyone finding the time to do everything? I am sooo far behind, I don't think I shall ever catch up!

Would just like to say, that since I have been around this forum and comp site, I feel as if I have made a lot of friends, even though I know none of you. I do hope that makes sense!
Our Granddaughter, Caitlin Freya is now 7 years old :), growing up to be a lovely young lady and our Grandson, Findlay Ewan is 3 years old and still a lovable bundle of mischief :) one of each, how perfect

Glad you feel so welcome tttJay :)

Rather than trying to catch up, why don't you try to stay up to date, then when you have spare time (because you are upstraight) then you could start working your way backforwards/forwards through the older comps? Otherwise always playing catch up is no fun & a little stressful!

As my BF says, it helps to be organised & optimised for maximum comping :D Even though it is just a hobby for me I like to have the right tools for it :)
Consider the following to help you with comping:
    • Make sure that you have either roboform or autofill to make comping forms a little faster to complete.
    • You may want to think about setting up an email signature if you use outlook/outlook express so it already has your name, address & phone number on it (then you just delete what isn't needed)
    • AutoHotKey for Firefox is brilliant once set up - a key combination to fill in your email address & other details on those annoying flash forms with robo & autofill won't recognise :)
    • Snaplinks - to open multiple links at just one click of your mouse button (helps to open a page full of comps then you can work through the tabs one at a time wihlst the others are still loading up!)
    • Don't enter every comp going, be selective there are loads of comps out there & entering for a gig or book that you wouldn't want is a waste of your valuable comping time & also could mean that someone desperate to win that prize misses out :)
I'll shut up now :D Good luck though & if you have any other questions then do yell out & a passerby will stop & answer :D
Sad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out
