The monthly payment does include VAt and as you say there is a disclaimer on the webpage:

Important Unit rate and standing charge do not include VAT.

I should add that Iresa are not alone in showing prices in this way. It's down to the fact that VAT can change.

Energy Saving Champion I've been Money Tipped!
Just checked for a quote as has been said it is clearly stated that unit rate and standing charge does not include vat.

However the estimated annual charge quoted does in fact include vat, for me the quote beats the best offer from E-On ( my existing supplier) by £150.

Still deliberating as firstly they are a relatively new supplier and not too keen on the advance payment which is taken before you even officially switch to them.

Most of the new/smaller suppliers ask for money in advance of supply as they pay for energy in advance. There is an advantage to you if you switch to them in the Winter months, it means that you do have some credit to cover high winter usage. Your money is also protected post the GBEnergy collapse.

I'm also thinking of moving from Eon but was not aware of the advance payment. How much s it? Is it a months payment?

It's the monthly payment. I initiated a switch of the 6th November and my first payment was taken on the 25th.

Iresa Energy Reviews at the bottom of the page :

In my experience, Iresa are struggling to deal with IGT gas transfers, and set up online accounts. They are also slow to respond to questions, and pass on closing meter readings to old suppliers. Other side of the coin, when I provide a meter reading it does up date my credit balance (for electricity at least as my gas account is still pending) within a couple of days, and their bills are clear and easy to read.

Provided that people are happy to keep an eye on their own consumption, I don't have any worries about recommending this supplier. I have 10 months remaining on my contract and I can switch at any time without penalty. Saving £100 a year is worth a little bit of hassle.

Only you can judge whether it is worth paying a premium to stay with E.oN. I am a serial switcher and I have had issues with EDF, E.oN and Ovo in the past. By far the best supplier that I have ever dealt with is ZOG, but their customers have to be proactive as there are no frills such as a fancy website or e-mail reminders for meter readings. I find some aspects of Iresa's offer annoying (for example, dates in US format) but I am not that annoyed to throw away a good deal. Whether I stay for the full 12 months will depend on market prices. I avoid any deals that offer freebies as they can hide high unit prices. I also run a comparison +/- 1500kWhs on my annual gas usage just to see how the best deal changes - and I go through this exercise at least once a month.

  • I note the comments regarding transfer overload, however, I have a further question:

I too am considering switching my domestic energy supply for both Electricity and Gas to Iresa.
However, when I look in detail at their billing procedure for the cost of gas, it seems to indicate Iresa use a “standard” Calorific value for gas of 40.3841MJ/m3.
Looking back quickly over 16 years of our various gas company accounts I have never seen a calorific value this high and I estimate Iresa’s adoption of a “standard” value will increase my gas bill by approximately £ 25 / year.
Perhaps there is a significant county wide variation in calorific value or perhaps I have simply misunderstood the Iresa billing process but I am interested in Forum comments?
