Cancelled TalkTalk account 4-5 years ago, they never stopped DD!

OP, it's your bank account, and so your job to cancel the DD-not the supplier's. All TT can do is stop drawing on it when you close an account, which in this case they have failed to do. But that means it still remains active until such time as you instruct the bank to cancel it, which takes seconds to do online.
Not advisable, let TT try and find the account it's associated with. If for some reason the OP didn't cancel it then they could find themselves in debt and all that that could entail.0 -
Why? Cancelling the DD won't prevent TT from accessing their account records, but it'll stop them taking any further payments. No free lunch, and no free laptop
