John Lewis own brand washing machine

I'm looking to buy a new integrated washing machine, was looking at paying a bit extra and getting a Bosch as I had one years ago and it lasted a while. Went into John Lewis and the assistant reckons that Bosch are not as good as they used to be as only 20% of the parts are German made(the one I liked was £650).
She steered me towards their own brand which is similar at £499, when I asked where they are made she says at the AEG factory and are 100% German made. I emailed JL Customer Services to confirm but they are unable to tell me where they are made which I though was a bit odd.
Both machines get very good reviews on the web and the JL one has 3 yr warranty whereas Bosch only 2 yr.
Anyone know if their items are German made cos that does appeal to me.

I don't know about JL washing machines but I have a JL integrated dishwasher. I bought it because they came and fitted it for me and it was an awkward fit.
It is OK but not a patch on the Bosch I had previously."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
I was told the same but cannot confirm whether that is true. I would suggest JL licensing agreements may prevent JL disclosing who makes what on their behalf.
I can confirm our JL branded washing machine works very well, better than the Bosch we previously owned:T."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Had a look at two Hotpoint cookers in JL recently, same model, different price. The one made for JL had those initials in the model no., and it was definitely not up to the same standard of finish as the "proper" one. Probably worked just as well, don't know, but I would rather pay the bit extra. Sales person confirmed that the finish was not the same. You don't get owt for nowt...0

AEG and JL are the same machine. They had both on display when we bought a new washing machine.0

AEG is simply a brand name owned by Electrolux since 2005. It's no more German these days than Grundig is.
I think you'll find that the sales rep earns a higher commission on flogging JL branded goods, hence her 'suggestion'.
The info about Bosch is also inaccurate. Many of Bosch's cheaper machines are made elsewhere in Europe, primarily in Spain. Some of the higher end models are still German made. There's no evidence that the assembly standards are any better there than elsewhere. The difference is that the budget models use cheaper parts with a shorter design life.
Some JL own brand products are AEG, but others are other Electrolux brands such as Zanussi. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Returned a JL washing machine a few years ago. No matter what wash/spin program used clothes came out so creased was even hard to get creases out with big generator steam iron. JL very good deinstalled and reinstalled a Bosch machine which is so much better.Jan Grocery challenge

JL stock a wine fridge which looks considerably like the one made by AEG except it was several hundred pounds cheaper. I contacted customer services who came back and advised it was made by Daewoo!0

Update - went with the JL own brand at £500 plus £100 for delivery and installation.
Yesterday they spent 2 1/2 hours trying to get it level and finally admitted that it has a faulty leg so they cannot get it level. I said I'm not happy with having a faulty one so they left it in place ( okay to use ) and said they would speak to the office and get a new one ordered. Not heard anything yet.
Problem is the guys also chipped my worktop at the front, its only small about the size of a 5p and they told me to glue it back on but it will look crap and what happens if the water gets in?? ( its laminate ). The worktop is less than 5 years old and otherwise perfect
Does anyone else think I should expect John Lewis to replace it or offer to contribute??
Any advice please??0 -
My AEG washer dryer needed lots replacing after two years after it just died. Thankfully under warranty. I've had real run-ins with Electrolux engineers over their inability to fix an Ikea branded dishwasher. In the end Ikea refunded me. I would personally stay well clear of any AEG/Electrolux/Zanussi/Ikea/JL machines in the future.0

I'd start by ringing JL and explaining what has happened. They can't really be expected to replace your 5 year old work tops. Paying for a repair would seem reasonable.0
