Can I return an unwanted Homebase gift card?

Question; I have been given £100 on a Homebase gift card. This is not suitable for me as they've been bought out by an Australian company, so they now only sell straight DIY stuff (no cookware, towels, bedding, etc.). There is literally nothing that I can see myself needing from Homebase in the next year. But £100 is a lot to lose! I have the receipt for the gift card, but the shop says they aren't able to refund me. Does anyone know what I can do?

Sell on ebay?
Who bought it for you?
That is a LOT of money to spend on someone without being sure they wanted the item... And what an odd item to buy; a £100 homebase card. I would probably never buy that for someone, and if I did, it would only be if they were moving into a new home and I knew they could use it for decorating, lamps, household stuff etc.
It's not a decorating voucher from your social housing landlord is it? If it is, be careful, because it may be 'assigned' to you.Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

Yeah I thought that too. I could easily spend £100 in Homebase!Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

As it turns out, I thought I could sell it, or trade it for other gift cards. But none of the sites that buy gift cards (Zeek)are accepting Homebase ones at the moment. :-(
No, it really was a gift. We did a loft conversion over the last 2 years, but I can't see us doing ANY DIY for at least another year!
Initially, because there's a big Homebase near us, I accepted the card thinking I could probably use it on crockery, towels, plants, batteries, even other gift cards, etc. over a year or so. But having been in, I've been told they won't be stocking those things any more (well, maybe batteries). So, I explained the situation to the person who bought the card, and they gave me the receipt to get the money refunded, and then they would give that to me instead. But, alas! The shop won't do it (they say they are unable to, that their systems don't have that function available), and their customer service just refers me back to the shop where I bought the product!0 -
Go into your local store, approach someone at the till that is paying cash and offer them your gift card for a discount!0

Ummm. No they don't. Not the one near me and not on their website!
Actually, checked again. They do sell some candles on the website. But, y'know, a hundred quids worth of candles?
Don't need any lighting - even got long life bulbs. I've got a garage full of paint, fillers, sandpaper, etc. Got a mower and a strimmer. Seriously, I walked around for AGES trying to find something to buy!
The only thing I've found that I could spend it on is 10 massive multipacks of dishwasher salt! And that's still more expensive than I could buy them for in Sainsbury's!0 -
Thank you! I may have to do that! :-D0

Oh that's disappointing. I was in one near me at the weekend and they still had loads of homeware bits and bobs.
The 'homeware' section on their website is still listing rugs, mirrors, curtains, cushions and similar. Although I do quite like the idea of finding someone about to pay to swap it with
ETA: they also have a LOT of storage listed. I could easily spend £100 on stacking storage crates... but I realise that may just be me :rotfl:0 -
I'll get back to you! :-)0
