O/S Daily Thursday 05 January 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is enough.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work early, DS1 now getting ready and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Still dark here, cold and frosty again.

Dinner last night was chicken breasts stuffed with cream cheese, cheese and wholegrain mustard then wrapped in bacon, mash, veg, LO veg and gravy - lovely it was too. There were more chicken breasts in the packet than I realised so having defrosted it all decided to cook the other breasts also, so they are in the fridge - want to use them along with some LO turkey to make a chicken, turkey, bacon and mushroom pie - this will be served with chips, peas and gravy for tomorrow night's dinner. I need to organise something for tonight, I'm thinking egg, bacon, sausages, mushrooms and beans - as I have all of it, I just need to get the sausages out to defrost, I'll do that in a mo.

Yesterday work was another manic day - the morning wasn't too bad, although busier than it has been, then in the afternoon the telephone calls were just non stop, calls waiting to be answered so as you let one caller go the next one comes in, the customers are therefore not happy before you've even spoken to them as they've been held in a queueing system! I'm pleased that I'm now on days' off and on annual leave so not back to work until a week on Monday.

Today I'll be tackling all the normal "to do" list but I have a nail appointment this morning, so will go to town visit building society and bank, organise nieces birthday card and prezzie, then go for nail appointment, home for lunch then crack on with chores. Whole house is a pit - don't know really where to start - my thinking is - washing, drying and ironing today - at least if I can get the dirty wash basket empty that's a start. The oven is desperate for a clean, so will put the cleaner on and leave overnight - I may do that tonight or Sunday night so I take the cleaner off the next morning. I'm not going to write up a to do list as I'm thinking it just overwhelms me and then I get annoyed with myself if I don't get stuff done. So I know what needs doing, so will just try to get as much done as possible, but I do have all of next week too, but it would be good to make a start today/tomorrow.

Keep safe and well x

Good morning all and a cold and frosty one here!
I am not working today and tomorrow and need to do some cleaning up. Other than that, I don't have specific plans.
Thinking particularly about LaineyT and Coxy today.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Morning, thank you for the thread nmlc xx Thanks also for all your thoughts and hugs xx

I had a better day yesterday - I even went for a run when I got in from work. It was so cold, my head hurt a lot and it was hard work. So pleased I did it though as I've had to cancel the gym. Also cleared the ironing basket - feeling a bit smug :)

Hugs to Lainey xxx and anyone else struggling xxx

DH had an interview yesterday for the civil service. He seemed happy when I got home, which is so good to see. He won't hear until next week, but things are picking up slightly and he has another couple of leads to chase up today.

Dinner last night was SW paella and I have some leftovers to eat cold for lunch. Tonight will be spaghetti meatballs in a tomato sauce. Washing is on it's another load to go in.

    Have a good day all

    Morning all,

Bitterly cold here thick ice on the cars, luckily mine is under the car port so no scraping for me :)

Off to work for me thank God its only a four day week as I am struggling a bit now, I was so tired yesterday I could not keep my eyes open beyond 9 last night.

Not sure about dinner tonight, the stocks are very low I have a shop coming tonight but I really need to make a trip to Aldi at some point to stock up properly.

Have good days all and take care in the ice xx

    Morning :hello:

Gigervamp Thanks so much for the info. I've been checking for updates every few days but I hadn't seen that. I thought they might extend it when I saw the news about Carmarthenshire. I've just read that it's reached Slimbridge Wildfowl And Wetlands Trust, which is just a few miles from me. Must admit, even though it's a good thing that everyone's being so careful, my heart sank a bit when I read it. I hate that my girls are confined to such a small space.
There was a free-range chicken farmer being interviewed on the radio a couple of weeks ago, he said that he has enormous barns for his chickens so even though he can't let them out, they have plenty of space to move around inside so it's not too bad for him – all he had to do was not open the doors. He said it's probably not that simple for people with chickens in their gardens, he thinks it's more difficult for them.
I have found it quite difficult, compared to normal – there are a couple of small trees next to their shed so it was awkward to build a small run, and the only place for a gate (a sheet of ply, wedged into the temporary roof, held in place on the outside with a couple of filled buckets of grit then pegged onto the chicken wire across the top, which is under tarpaulin!) was round the back – duck under the tree, pull the 'gate' to one side, open the shed, hope you can get back out and close it off before a chicken escapes, hit your head on the tree branch as you're wedging the gate back into place, then peg it across the top. All this first thing in the morning, before I've woken up properly, lol. Then repeat when it gets dark and the shed needs closing up, while holding a torch because the outside light doesn't reach that corner of the garden. It's quite an event :D

Today I'll be mostly spreadsheeting and filing. I tend to get stuck in and not realise how long I've been sat down for, so I'll stop every 30 minutes and move around – work, vacuum downstairs, work, put some washing away, work, vacuum upstairs, work, play with Scampi :D Hopefully I'll be up to date by the end of the day.

  • Morning folks. By heck it's a cold one this morning and not forecast to get above 2 deg all day.

The car got picked up yesterday morning (sob sob at the bill!)) but it's back to full power again and came up our big hill a treat. Did the top up shop whilst we were out and about and stuck rigidly to my little list. Aldi was really quiet and stocks of a lot of stuff really low. Though I did get all the fruit and veg I needed. They didn't even have any milk so had to pop over to Sainsbugs for that. Almost deserted in there too and still no Vivaldi potatoes to stock up on. I am getting withdrawal symptoms!

Had a good night out with the girls at the carvery and there too it was very quiet. Is everyone in hibernation! We caught up on each other's news and gossip and the wine went down nicely. Lovely food too as always and ate too much as usual.

Not given a thought to today's meals yet but I tidied both the freezers out yesterday and did an inventory of all that's in there. It should keep us going for quite a while and I am determined this will be a low spend month.

The Friday clean is being brought forward to today as I have a docs appointment mid morning tomorrow which scuppers my normal cleaning routine. I don't feel a bit like cleaning sadly! I knew I shouldn't have had that last wine!

Have as nice a day as you can folks and (((HUGS))) as always to LAINEY and dm. I hope she is still peaceful and painfree. TRU sorry for your poor chucks now the date has changed. Take care all xx

    Morning everyone,

Like others it's v cold and frosty here today, luckily for me my DOH got up first and took the girls out for their early morning walk.
Thank you as always for all your kind wishes for DM, she was a tad more comfortable yesterday so the change in medication seems to have calmed things down, she was however quite restless and kept trying to get up, something which is apparently quite normal as changes occur.
Trying hard to make time for and cosset myself if that makes sense, last night we light the lovely WW candle that DSIL gave us for Xmas and had that going on the hearth, beautiful smell and very comforting.
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

    Morning everyone.

I slept really well last night, no loo breaks and didn't wake at all until gone 7am.

It's cold outside and it's very cosy under the bed covers so I'm a bit reluctant to get up yet. I'm going down to Glasgow this morning to take DM to see her GP and spend a couple of days with her. A neighbour's son is hitching a ride back with me to his student flat so I'll have company for a change.

Yesterday I completely cleared the kitchen worktops, put away stuff and got rid of other stuff which was just lingering there. I hate a cluttered look even though it's all too easy to slip into it, now it's very bare.

I did a freezer shop and then spent a surprisingly pleasant hour doing the vac-packing. Turns out that bread rolls get sucked almost completely flat :rotfl:so I learnt the art of half-vacuuming only.

Later I did more fiddling with iTunes and then loaded a memory stick for the car as I get bored with the same songs after a couple of trips.

TA - the cashier at my local shop told me that January is always very quiet.

Tru - I too am prone to remain seated for too long so set my phone on timer for 50 minutes then I spend 10 minutes doing something more active. Even been known to just go outside and walk to the next house and back.

Right, I suppose I can't put off getting up any more so here I go.

    Happy Thursday everyone.
