Saves you typing out your card details. Its safe and secure. You have paypal buyer protection.

Many reasons. Its not exactly a strange thing to do. I use paypal on many stores.

But as this thread shows it has some downside too. Do Paypal take a commission?

You mean like merchant banks who also charge retailers for card processing services
  • If there is a paypal option on a retailers website I use it. It means my card details are on on less sites (with all these hacking scandals going on), and there's added buyer protection.

I used paypal to buy a wowcher deal (think that was their name). It didnt turn up, was given the run around by wowcher, got a refund a couple of days after complaining to paypal. I've seen other people on here in same situation with Wowcher complaining of the difficulty of getting their money back from Wowcher.

Its not something you need to do very often, but useful when needed.

Large retailers now take Paypal payments because they get the same rates as Credit card companies give them.

I always use Paypal if the option is there because it's all done in a few clicks and is much easier.

I would have no problem giving the giftee the cash value if they didn't like the gift, it's not as if we always like the gifts we get.
