Parking Charge Appeal!!

Hi Guys.
I received a parking fine for parking on double yellow lines. However, there were around 7 other cars also parked on the lines which had no Penalty Charges on their windscreens. I appealed the charge. 3 months later, I have received a reply from the Council who have advised me that the yellow lines are seasonal but the ones that I was parked on were not... This was not clearly signposted, yet in the email, they tell me that they do not have to clearly mark this?
I am going to fight this one to the death either way but does anyone know, due to them taking 3 months to reply, does this make the ticket invalid? Or due to the fact that the signposting was very unclear. Are there any loopholes? Regretfully, I no longer have the PCN as they took so long to reply I assumed they had dismissed the charge! I should also point out that I do not live in this area and simply visit a couple times a week to study and so have never had any involvement with this particular Council.
Thanks xxx
